Fun with my mom
At the beginning of the summer, coming back from college, I was going to go look for a new summer job. I wasn't a big fan of what I had done in the past, and wanted something new.

The first day I could, my mom told me "why bother, just stick with what you've got." So I did, just to make her happy.

Tonight, she's in a fit about goodness knows what and goes "next summer, when you get home, you look for a full-time job!" She of course doesn't bother to credit me for the original idea, or, you know, apologize for shooting it down when I thought of it.

Her: "Well, you should have been looking for other jobs and then called up (workplace)! AND THEN WHEN YOU GOT THE OTHER JOB, YOU COULD HAVE TOLD (original workplace) TO GO F*CK THEMSELVES! BUT NO, YOU WANNA GO THROUGH YOUR LIFE BEING HONEST AND VIRTUOUS!"

Me: "Yes, yes I do! Why is being honest a bad thing?"

Her: "Because it'll make you poor!"

She then- I'm not kidding- proceeded to go into the fetal position on her bed with her fingers in her ears rocking back and forth saying "I'm not gonna listen" when I dared to ask her why she had a problem with me, an Eagle Scout, being honest.

This woman raised me Dem, but she was pulling a Freeper.

The scary thing? She's on the INTEGRITY AND ETHICS board in the field she works. She hasn't, to my knowledge, been unethical at work, but the fact that she wants ME TO be that is scary, to say the least.

1. OK, I am a mom who raised a daughter to be honest and responsible
and I fear she has no place in a world gone mad.

Maybe your mom is having a bit of trouble dealing with the world you are inheriting and how very different it is from the world she hoped would be your future.

Tell her you love her and remember that moms have very scary days too.

I feel better about the world just hearing your story. But you mom might be afraid the world is gonna chew you up.

Peace, man. Peace and strength.

2. That's all it is
I know that, she's always worried I'm too nice a person, too afraid to speak up. I've gotten better, but I'm still gonna be honest.

She's calmed down. Sadly, it took bad news about our favorite bakery getting plowed over by a minivan, but she told me the news as if she wasn't mad at me before.

3. She wasn't mad at you
you just happened to be ther when she was mad.

Congratulations. You get to be a grownup in the ever evolving relationship with your mom. Us moms go through phases too.

Glad to hear things are really OK.

4. I'm always there when she's mad
It's the downside of being the only kid with a single mom.

7. If she is abusive, remember that you are growing up now
and it opens more possibilities and responsibilities. There are resources out there if things are bad a lot of the time.

PM me if you wanna get into specifics. But remember I am old and might go to sleep soon. If I don't respond this evening, I will tomorrow.

Am here if you need a pal to vent to. Eagle Scouts are too few and far between! They need to be mentored.. I happen to have a lot of respect for most of them I have met. Well worth the time, they are.
