Pat Sajak, one of the "few" conservatives in Hollywood (except for Charleton Heston, Patricia Heaton, Kelsey Grammar, James Woods, John Milius, Shannen Doherty, and a scant 5000 or 6000 others), speaks out on the ever-reliable topic of
Hollywood versus America. Although the chief number-spinner is not a ranter on a par with Michael Medved or Bill O'Reilly, it's all there -- the complaint that Hollywood is dominated by liberals, that the poor conservatives are oppressed and denied employment (with only 5000 or 6000 exceptions), the accusation that celebrities spend every waking moment having promiscuous sex, drinking, drugging, and plotting the overthrow of both God and The Flag, and especially the Babylonian linkage of God and Patriotism.
But don't take it from me -- my brain is way too mushy from all the booze, group sex and cocaine I've had with Meg Ryan, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange (on direct orders from co-Commissars Alex Baldwin and Barbra Streisand). After all, Sajak took the time and trouble to write this for your improvement; read it for yourself.
The Disconnect Between Hollywood and America
You see, one of the dangers of my business is that it has the potential to fill you with a distorted view of life and your importance in it. And it's understandable in a way. If you are part of a successful enterprise, people treat you very well. They pretend the most outlandish or inane things you might say are important and quotable. Drugs? Adultery? Alcoholism? Deviant behavior? Don’t worry. You go on Oprah...you cry...people call you heroic for being so open...and your career soars to new heights.

Speaking of silly, Alec Baldwin, an actor, recently compared the election of George W. Bush to the terrorist attacks of last September. This is the same Baldwin brother who promised to leave the country if Bush were elected. Sadly, he reneged on that one. Baldwin also went on Conan O'Brien's late-night show during the Clinton impeachment to say that Illinois Republican Congressman Henry Hyde should be shot -- along with his family.

I don't mean to sound too harsh -- or hypocritical. After all, I seem perfectly happy to have cashed my checks for the more than 30 years I've been in television. And I'm not exactly working on the Dead Sea Scrolls. I do make a living by selling vowels and spinning a giant multicolored wheel! So who am I to be pointing fingers? Well, I'm just someone who wants to feel prouder than he does -- as proud as he once was -- about what goes on in his industry. And that's why I spend only part of my time around it. I need to step back occasionally. I think it does help me see the world more clearly.

Sajak wants "to feel prouder than he is," so he un-self-consciously lets us know that he knows more about people in The Biz than anyone else. At least more than those reprobates who have attracted his keenly critical eye. And, of course, he's an ostracized outsider for having done so, standing his achingly lonely ground by himself, except for the maybe 5000 or 6000 other lone Hollywood conservatives.
If that's what makes Pat Sajak feel proud, who am I to argue?
However, I noticed that he wrote his think-piece for a Christian website. (And I use the term loosely -- "Christian", not "website"). It is fairly easy to see where ol' Pat stands with regard to pre-marital sex, extra-marital sex, non-procreative sex and the War in Iraq. But I wonder -- where does Mr. Sajak stand on the issue of
bearing false witness against his neighbors?--bkl
