Cincinnati basketball head coach Bob Huggins busted for drunk driving
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 06:55 PM by Paragon
They just showed the cruiser cam footage on local TV -- he wasn't just drunk; he could barely stand, and was unable to even attempt the basic sobriety tests. Also, what was presumably his own vomit was found on the driver's side door.

Bye, Bob. :hi:

Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins was arrested on charges he was driving drunk after visiting with a recruit.

Huggins, 50, had trouble staying in his lane, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol when he was pulled over Tuesday in the village of Fairfax, according to a police report.

Neither Huggins nor the university had immediate comment. He was scheduled to appear in court later Friday.

The police report said Huggins told the police officer that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, the police report said Huggins was unable to perform a field sobriety test, had slurred speech, red, watery eyes and staggered out of the car after he was stopped.

The report said there was a strong odor of alcohol and vomit on the driver's side door...

...Asked to recite the alphabet from the letter "E" through "P," Huggins said, "E, F, G, H, I, K, L, N, Z," according to the police report. Asked to count backward from 67 to 54, he counted from 62 to 52, the report said...

2. Video of his DUI arrest here, and damn! is he wasted!!

Truly, one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Huggins has been a longtime bar customer of mine, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why in hell he didn't call a cab. And he's that crocked, at 10:30 pm, per the cruiser-cam? Pretty untypical of him.

I hate to kick anyone when they're down, but as one of Bob's many bartenders for years, I have to say he had it comin'.

My favorite part of the Enquirer article:

"When asked what time he stopped drinking, Huggins replied "No sir."

Must be seen to be believed:

4. 6 month slap on the wrist is rumored
Unless he was drinking WITH the recruits, in which case he would be toast.

6. No, and probably won't...
...like I said, unless more damning info comes out.

The press conference is most likely to announce an indefinite suspension, during which Bob & UC will negotiate as to what his "sentence" will be with the University.
