2. My daughter..............
who's 20, found out to what degree I loathed the man and for what reasons. I know this isn't the type of response you were trying to gather, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

3. Since my personal kids are
24 and 26, I'm not. He hasn't come up in conversation at all.

I haven't really talked about it with my professional kids, either. On the way to lunch Monday, one of my students asked why the flag didn't make it to the top of the pole. I told him it was at half-staff because a former president had died. Several classmates jumped in to say "Ronald Reagan!!!!!" and I dropped them off for lunch. That's the extent of our conversation.

4. telling them the truth
That the media are acting as propaganda mouthpieces for the Republican Party (as usual).

That they are lying about Reagan.

That Reagan was a really bad president.

I'm filling them in on the crimes of the Reagan era, both domestic and foreign policy, some of which I saw first hand in DC in the '80s.

They're in their early teens, but even if they were in kindergarten I'd be filling them in on the truth about Reagan.

As anyone who's lived in an authoritarian society will tell you, it's never too early to start alerting kids to reality.

6. He was the President. I did not like him as a President or a man.
However, I honor the office of the President.

He is dead and a lot of people feel sad and want to show respect to him because they liked him even though I did not.

My son, "Why didn't you like him?"

Because he ignored people like the homeless and the sick.

Because he believes in things that I do not like.

For a lot of reasons.

My son, "Oh ok. Want to turn off the tv and duel Yu-Gi-Oh with me?"

Sure. After that, we'll go outside and play in the park and after that we'll come home and watch Teen Titans.
