Has anyone watched the SCTV DVD set yet?
I got mine in the mail yesterday. I spent the next 13 hours watching some great shows, some of which I haven't seen since they were originally aired in '81-'82.
One in particular cracked me up: Andrea Martin doing a commercial as Brenda Vaccarro for "feminine protection".

2. Still waiting for mine to arrive.
I've been watching them off ancient VHS tapes for years though. SCTV ruled.

4. Me too.
Nice to see the old show crisp and clean again.
There was an old commercial with Donny and Marie (Dave and Andrea) for parasites set in a bar (one that was always edited out):

"If you're all itchy and red
from your thighs to your head
You better go Kwallada"

"You're lice, scabies and crabs
will be dead with just a few dabs
of creamy, cool Kwallada"

"To get bugs off your skin
and keep on living in sin
you better go Kwallada"

3. Does this set have
Richard Harris doing the extended version of "MacArthur Park"?

5. Yes!
Never saw it before until yesterday.
His female singer (who hit the high notes) sat next to him onstage in a chair, reading a book. Awesome!

6. Yeah, and I still have all of the old VHS tapes, too...
...The "Leave It To Beaver" bit still kills me. "Street Beef" ("I'm freezin MY beef off out here")...hell, all of it is classic.

SCTV reminds me of "The Chris Farley Show"...you could sit there all day and go "Remember when...that was AWESOME." The only time that I felt the show lost its spark was in the final Cinemax era (although Levy and Martin Short scored a hit with "The Queen Haters" (a Sex Pistols parody) on "Mel's Rockpile" performing their song "I Hate The Bloody Queen"...)

There's a good article in the new TV Guide on the release of the DVD...interviews with cast members and such. One "secret of their success" was that they all liked each other, supported and encouraged each other, and did their best to produce what THEY thought would be funny, without pandering to an audience.

The Polaroids of the cast members in character that decorate the set are way cool, too...it makes them seem even more like "long lost friends."

7. Leave it to Beaver is on it.
Ward: "Beaver, for a while I thought you were killed in Vietnam"
I never saw many of the Cinemax shows, except Mel's Rock Pile with the Queen Haters.
I'll check out the new TV Guide. Thanks.

8. not yet
I'll go out looking for it on payday...Sounds like some great stuff included!
I take it these dvds are from the Friday night 90 minute show? Those were the best years although I liked some of the earlier half hour shows when Harold Ramis was in the cast (but John Candy left for awhile) I liked a sketch where Ramis and Dave Thomas were like human weasels, buying eggs out of vending machines and twitching their eyes and noses as they start to suck on them!...Also "Lust For Paint", the story of Toulouse L'Autrec played by Joe Flaherty walking around on his knees? In that episode there was an earlier sketch with John Candy as Babe Ruth visiting the sick boy in the hospital...As L'Autrec lays dying in his hospital bed, people from his past appear to him, and in comes Candy as Ruth, promising to hit him a home run if he got better!
...I did NOT like the episodes with Tony Rosato and Robin Duke, those two were just not funny to me...Also the Martin Short years were not quite up to the rest because Thomas and Rick Moranis had left...

I can hardly wait, that was my favorite show! GEE does my avatar reflect this? Do they have the spoof of the triler of "Body Heat" called "Prickly Heat" starring Edith Prickley in the Kathleen Turner role?

"Remember, kid...It's Polynesiantown!"

9. Thanks for the heads-up! I've been clueless about SCTV being on DVD...
And I was just thinking of SCTV today (The "Sammy Maudlin Show).

Well, there goes some more $$$, but what the hell -- how do you put a price on well-needed laughter?
