A wise man, indeed.

9. I can't stand the sherry finish
I don't know why. If we ever do get a gathering going in Vancouver - it'll be at the "Shebeen" 131 kinds of whiskey!

Everything from $40 and ounce scotch to Canadian club

22. Oh if you ever get to Victoria....
I'll take you to the Officers' Mess at the Bay Street armoury. There's 110 different single malts. Some you can't get here, they come from the Scottish Single Malt Society in Edinburgh. I'm sure there will be something to your taste.

But jeez, that Shebeen place sounds alright too. Any ideas about a gathering?

7. Are you serious?
Crown Royal is crap compared to what he's describing. Unless you buy the expensive crown.
Anyway...... I don't drink wine unless it comes in a box so...

18. Perhaps you should move closer to a good liquor store.....

A friend REALLY likes Chopin vodka and lives in a city with less well-stocked liquor stores than I enjoy. When he first went to buy it, had to go to a liquor store that he said looked like target practice for hold-ups.

He went into the store and asked about it. The clerk said "Oh!!!! Cho-pan vodka! Yeah, we got it..."

After my friend picked himself up off the floor and stifled his laughter, he bought the "Cho-pan" and quickly became a devotee.

27. I think my preference is for Johnnie Walker Blue Label...
there's more complexity and character in a well-crafted blend than a single-malt, because the flavour notes of the different malts play against each other. Think I'd take Johnnie Blue over most single-malts I've had.

and about $165-200 a fifth...worth the thirty or so bucks for a glass if you have something to celebrate, though (and it goes quite excellently with a good cigar, too).

The stuff is aged 25 years, and some of the malts in the blend (there are 16) are up to 60 years old. Think they only produce a few thousand or so bottles a year (every bottle has a serial number).

28. Aberlour a'bundahr
120 proof, straight from the cask, no cold filtering...

Liquid toffee, heavenly aroma...it's what other Scotchs want to be when they grow up.
