5. Ahhhhh!
It depends on how you read it.

What's (twice the half of seven), and a half

or

What's twice the half of 7 1/2

16. Agreed, the answer is either 7.5 or 8
depending on your interpretation of the problem

Twice (the half of seven) and a half:

2<7(.5)>+.5 = 2(3.5)+.5 = 7.5

Twice <(the half) of (seven and a half)>

2<(.5)(7.5)> = 2(3.75) = 7.5

Twice the <(half of seven) and (a half)>

2(.5(7)+.5) = 2(3.5+.5) = 2(4) = 8

or read as

(Twice) *both* the (half of seven) and (a half)

2<.5(7)> + 2(.5) = 2(3.5) + 2(.5) = 7+1 = 8

Both are correct.

You know secretly, deep down inside, you really love math. Go on. Admit it to yourself.

7. Hmm
(Twice) (the half) of (seven and a half)
2 x 1/2 x 7 1/2 = 7 1/2

((Twice) (the half of seven)) (and a half)
(2 x 3 1/2) + 1/2 = 7 1/2

Lets just say, I don't know

8. uuhh.. maybe
The half of "seven and a half" is half (literally, not mathematically). One Half twice is one.

Is that what you're looking for?

11. Three and a half and a quarter. Three and a half and a quarter.
Can you push a quarter through a ring? (I mean one that you wear on your finger here)...It's very easy.

10. How's this for a smartass answer? (R-rated so now you can guess...)
"The length of my willie?"

2 * (7.5/2) = 7.5, naturally!

As long as it does equal 42 then everything's cool.

13. Not that it matters much...
but what's the expression you're asking?

2(7/2)+(1/2)

2<.5(7.5)>

Both give you 7.5, but I'm just curious.

14. ambiguity play?
Edited on Sat Aug-23-03 05:04 AM by Iverson
One could also interpret it this way:

2(1/2) x (7 1/2) = 7 1/2

Twice the half becomes a self-negating expression, a waste of time, almost like the brain teasers that we complete with relish.

edited for no reason
