Democrat Dimes, Republican Dimes...Is the US polarized THIS bad?
http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/08/news/economy/reagan_hamilton/index.htm

(snip)

If Reagan is not put on the $10, an alternate proposal is to have half the nation's dimes carry Reagan's face, with the other half continuing to honor Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The idea of removing Roosevelt from the dime altogether in favor of Reagan had enough opposition, even from Nancy Reagan, to be dropped, USA Today reported.

But the Gipper's fans think giving equal time to Reagan and FDR strikes an appropriate compromise.

2. I really don't think we need to change any of our currency...
I'd be fine with putting his face on a postage stamp or something, since those designs change all the time.

5. I Was Thinking A Commemorative Quarter...
Just like the commemorative "state quarters"... or the commemorative "Louisiana Purchase" nickel or the Lewis & Clark nickel.

Give Reagan a commemorative 1-year quarter... then be done with it. Collectors will snatch them up in no time at all... The coins will effectively be REMOVED from circulation and I won't have to look at his ugly mug every time I want to buy a can of soda.

12. No State In Particular... But Whenever The 50-State Collection Is Complete
they could strike a Reagan commemorative for a few months and then be done with it.

3. This Is A Decision That Ought To Be Made In 50 Years...
by a generation of people who didn't directly support him and who didn't directly oppose him.

Such efforts to memorialize Reagan is more to ANNOY democrats and Reagan critics than to honor Reagan himself. Trust me... this is FACT.

You know it. I know it. Reagan supporters know it (but won't admit it.)

Give it time to rest and see how history judges Reagan and see what type of memorial is appropriate.

This "Reagan-on-a-coin" movement is just a fad.

15. Very Freaking Good Point!
When have we EVER put a President's likeness on currency when people who VOTED for him are still living? Or at least when more than half the population was of age to vote for him?

18. and the Lincoln Penny if you take it to extremes,

The Ike dollar was appropriate because he was the Supreme Allied Commander in WWII as well as President.

Roosevelt led the March of Dimes against Polio, so putting him on the dime was also appropriate.

The Kennedy half dollar probably wouldn't have been done if they waited another year or so. It was shoved through right after the assassination.

4. Repugs amaze me
They're facing all sorts of scandals and are busy whipping up all sorts of spin to hold onto their ill-gotten power, this after waiting for decades to control the White House and the other two houses, and they waste time on crap like this.

10. No compromise
It would be implying that the overrated Reagan was a great president and the equal of FDR.

11. Randi's comment today about Reagan on the dime
Anyone else hear it? Paraphrased:

Oh, Reagan on the dime. As in, "brother-can-you-spare-a...." The caller suggested Reagan's face be placed on food stamps instead, since that's more in line with his 80s legacy.

13. Put him on the three-dollar bill
What's that you say? We don't have a three-dollar bill? Well, shucky-darn!

They can put the old bastard's face on toilet paper and doormats for all of me, like some of these rapacious vultures did with flags during the Great Flag Craze of winter 2001. I'll wipe my feet or my ass on him any old day.
