Does or has anyone here lived in Mexico?
I'm probably moving to Central Mexico. Any advice or anecdotes of experience welcome. Thanks.

1. Rapes, assaults
and kidnapoings are common,

but in general the people are very friendly,

I take it Mexico City? If you are, the city is quite dangerous.

2. Not Mexico City
North Central. Guadalajara area, possibly, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Tepic. Somewhere not humid, not excessively hot, and reasonably inexpensive. Mexico City interests me for a visit but not to live.

Guadalajara, about 30 miles?....the lake has been polluted...I think paradise may have been lost there....

4. Yes, Lake Chapala
I've looked into it. It's a bit more Americanized than I want, but I am considering it as a soft landing for the first few months or so, taking short exploratory trips to find where I might want to live. High speed internet is there. I don't speak Spanish, so I will have to study, although I grew up in NYC, so it's not as foreign as other languages might be for me. Anyway, I figure a place with gringos around may allow me a reasonable cultural transition. Woman traveling alone and all that.
