A coupla Windows questions
First, at work I have W2000 and Outlook. Is there a way to control the view when I want to save a file from an email to disk or when I want to attach file a file to an email? Is that a setting in Outlook? In both instances I want the details view, ordered by name.

Second, at home I have WXP Personal Edition. I keep getting messages that say there are Windows updates to download. OK, I download and install and reboot, and the next time I boot up I get the same messages about the same updates. What's up with that?

I call up on you, my DU brothers and sisters, for some guidance with these small annoyances.

1. Answers
1) I believe it inherits the settings from the File Explorer view. Double-click My Computer, then go to the C: drive. Set the view to be how you want it to appear in Outlook. (Click View... Details). Then click Tools... Folder Options. Click the View tab, and click the "Like Current Folder" button. Now go into Outlook and try it.

2) Open up IE, and go to the website: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. That way you can see what it needs you to download. They did have an instance awhile back where two updates refused to install themselves from WindowsUpdate, and you had to download the patches manually, so let me know if that seems to be the issue.

3. Excellent!
Your suggestion no. 1 worked. I would have sworn I already had that setting in Windows Explorer--maybe I accidentally changed it.

Will look into suggestion no. 2 at home.

2. Can't find a details view in outlook
I too use Win 2K and Outlook and I've browsed all the tools and features of the program and can't find a way to show an attachment in detail view. I am guessint it can't be done. However, if you look at the mail message in the preveiw window and click the attachments paperclip in the top right of that window it lists the attachments and their sizes.

I think that's probably the best you can do with Outlook... FWIW I've had to use Outlook for over 5 years now and I can't think of a good thing to say about it.

As for XP updates, it asking you to install the SAME updates and service packs or different ones each time you reboot? I know Windows tends towards the "update often" model, but I can't imagine it being at every boot. Still, they tend to release an update like every couple of days....
