Old enough to make crap up.
Got my 87 year old uncle a great birthday card.
Photo of an elderly couple looking out over a body of water.
He's a skinny old dude, wearing plaid shirt, checked double-knit slacks, matching white patent leather belt and shoes. Snappy straw fedora set squarely on his head.
He says "That thing over there is called a 'stick-out', cause it sticks out of the water like that."

Inside: "Are you getting close to the age where you make crap up?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

I'm there. If I don't know the answer, I make one up. It's a lot of fun, and especially effective if my listener is at least 20 years younger than I am.

"If you're stuck in traffic, or waiting for someone, is it cheaper to let the engine idle or shut it down and start when you're ready to go?"
"If you anticipate idling for more than 1.5 minutes, it's cheaper to shut the engine off. Any thing less than that, it takes more gas to restart the engine."
Hell, I don't know. I made that up.

Are you old enough to make crap up?
What kind of crap have you made up?

4. My story begins in nineteen-dickety-two.
We had to say dickety because the Kaiser had stolen our word twenty... I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles.

10. I once made up the fact
that 62% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I also "observed" that the reason English has so few X's and Z's is that in the middle ages Polish printers used them all up, so that English typesetters in the middle ages had to make do without them.

14. I bought a chocolate bar for my wife
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 03:44 PM by oneighty
at the drug store. When I got home I noticed I forgot to get headache medicine. So I go back and get the medicine. At the check out counter I tell the pretty lady clerk, "The chocolate did not work. Now she claims a head ache."

I made that up too.
