Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I am an introvert. As per the Meyers-Briggs test. I couldn't disagree with that statement. It does explain why I have difficulty with other people sometimes.

1. Introvert
It does not mean that I am anti social. It does not mean that I don't like people. It is my preference and I will dispute that it is inferior. There are many extroverts who don't really like people and do not have any solid firendships/relationships.

5. Introvert and beyond
A shrink once explained it to me as the difference between how dogs and cats socialize. Extroverts are pack animals like dogs. Introverts are cats. I'm feral.

6. I don't know if that is true
I pack with my chosen close friends. I just don't really enjoy mingling with people who I don't know. If I go to a party where I don't know anyone, I prefer to get to know a few people very well instead of briefly meet everyone.

12. The BEST single question to ask, re: intro- or extra-
Answer this question, and it'll tell you whether you're an introvert or extravert:

Do you "charge" when you're with people, or do you feel somewhat drained being with people, so you have to go home to "recharge."?

If you must go home to recharge, you have introverted tendencies.

I've taken Myers-Briggs professionally three times thru the years. I'm an INFP.

20. I'm a reasonably social introvert
I'm not shy really, but I'm, generally speaking, slow to warm up to people, except rarely. I have no fear of speaking in public, yet I tend to find that "hi, how are you?" chitchat somewhat tedious.

Here's one of the most insightful things I've read recently about introverted people:

21. Same here.
I can do the social thing having grown up in a very social family, however by nature I am an introvert. INFP, to be specific. I find too much social interaction draining and I love to be alone.

However, if I spend too much time alone, I start getting a little wiggy. I hate working with a lot of people though. I am fortunate that I only work w/ two other people and we all kind of do our own thing.

My biggest nightmare is working in a large corporation - I have done it and it's hell. I have no tolerance for bullshit or workplace politics. I'm just not interested in relationships that are forced upon me.

24. Me too!
I am sociable, but would prefer to be alone or perhaps with one person. For everyday I spend socializing, I need two days to recover or else I feel insane.

On the other hand, if I spend too much time alone, I tend to spiral down into an abyss of depression. So, I try to balance, but tend to lean towards the introverted side of my personality.

36. I know what you mean
I find that if I get too "inward", I get pretty gloomy, so I have to force myself to socialize a bit, but most people I find deliriously dull, but I still seem to need a bit of human contact regardless. There's lots of humans in my house, but still, I need something outside my little world at times.

The more I drink the more extroverted I become (or is that obnoxious?). Good thing I don't drink that much anymore.

26. definitely an introvert, for the most
Edited on Mon May-31-04 08:42 PM by noiretblu
i find people draining for the most, but enjoy performing as a spoken word artist, which helped me overcome (some of) my shyess. i am more extroverted with people who are more introverted than i am.
generally speaking, i would prefer to be alone or in a small group of people than in a large group of folks.

32. Extreme introvert.
Depending on when I've taken the Meyers-Briggs test, my introversion has ranged from 90% to 100%.

35. some of both
I talk to strangers for a living and played in a band. I love to meet new people, but can really enjoy peace and quiet. I can be rather boisterous, but was shy as a child. I think people are generally very complex.
