If they refuse, they would be subjected to ridicule in the press and by the public at large. Immediate impeachment proceedings would follow the next day.

America does not exist in all it's glory without the guidence of a very strict set of enforced guidlines. The standard deviation between "elected" leaders is measured in angstroms. Rocking the vote is ok but the ship must remain seaworthy.

If those rules are ever eliminated then all hell will ensue.
