Norton question
I have Norton Systemworks 2002. Lately my Internet Security will show "disabled" until I mouse over it. Sometimes it will stay disabled and I have to re-enable it.

I've done a few scans, and nothing is showing as infected.

I did Symantec online security scan. It suggested I configure my NetBios and said my Internet Security was disabled, although it is notifying me that intrusion attempts are taking place (trojans).

When I went to the Symantec site to use their automated answer wizard, they said 2002 was no longer supported and I should upgrade.

Do I have to upgrade? I do subscribe to the virus and products udates already. Another $70/yr needed?

Should I just do the dreaded uninstall/reinstall?

Thanks in advance.

Me and norton have a bad history.... So I recommend Pc Cillin. You can download it for free at the link following my repsonse. After you download it, you *can* crack it, by getting a cerial key for the version you downloaded. Try www.astalavista.com , there is a search bar near the top of the page.

3. It may not help you at this moment

but if you shop carefully, you can usually get upgrades at little or no cost after rebates (upgrade plus store) if you look for sales. Especially at Fry's and Staples I've found.

5. Has your license expired? Or is it about to?
Your "Status" page will show you how many days you have left. You don't necessarily have to buy a new NAV 2004. I used NAV 2001 for three years even though it is only good for a year at a time. You have to completely uninstall it and then new install it. If you are not comfortable with making changes to your registry then I would suggest you don't bother.

6. I disabled Norton because it drives me nuts
It kept popping up on me every 10 seconds and I had to click on permit and it drove me nuts.

7. You won't want to hear this
At work, we use McAfee.

A computer using v4.5.1 could not detect a virus that 7.0.0 could.

Add in how hackers are prone to trying to defeat this stuff to spread viruses, and the most that any antivirus provider should provide is a 2 year support structure.

On the other hand, why they couldn't just patch known vulnerabilities and increase scanning potential is just me, but they want their money.

10. hmmm
Thanks. What irks me now is that I just resubscribed. When I upgrade to a newer version, it will include a one year subscription, so I just wasted $30 (?).
