What is your most hated comic strip?
For me, it's a toss up: "Cathy" or "Love is...".
Lame and badly drawn. "Cathy" just gets on my nerves. That whole strip just repeats the same 3 jokes again and again (and they have to do with dieting). "Love is..." should have been retired in 1974. Shouldn't the FCC be getting on their naked asses?

6. Family Circus is #2 for me.
Right next to that uber-conservative duck. Ironically, they appear right next to each other in my city's newspaper.

26. There used to be a great site "Dysfunctional Family Circus"
where posters wrote their own captions to the strips, but it was apparently pulled due to a court order:

9. Yeeesh! Yick...yuck.
I'd never seen this Mallard Fowlmore travesty. Makes Rushblow sound like Noam Chomsky. Does this get published on regular comics pages, or is it at least shoved onto the editorial page? The Air America slander is particularly dreadful.

22. Honest to God
there wasn't anything in that comic that could be seen as humorus in any way. It was just a buncha right wing talkin points in a comic strip form.

C.

Let me take Jonny Hart out back. Give us both tire irons. I guarantee that old fart will never draw another anti-woman, anti-liberal, anti-semitic cartoon for the short remainder of his artistically worthless life.

8. Why would anyone hate a comic strip?
I mean, "I don't care for it," or "It doesn't do anything for me" should be the extent of it.

There is already too much hate in the world for to add to it by hating things like comic strips. Stop it.

P.S. Can you tell I have been drinking? ;)

10. I have a love/hate relationship with "Life in Hell"....
It's funny as hell when I "get it," but when I don't get it, which is often, well, I don't hate the comic strip, I hate feeling dumb.

13. For those not familiar with "Love Is..."
Here's a page of bile:
http://members.tripod.com/~katie_lady/loveis.html

I had one strip cut out of the paper that I tried in vain to find. The caption was: "Love is...Eating less so that he loves you more."

17. Mallard Fillmore
would suck based solely on political content, but then it isn't even slightly funny.

Not even "unfunny."

Its basic joke is something like: "Look at those liberal stereotypes, aren't they stupidheads? They really have stupid heads. Aren't we funny for saying so?"

Then repeat that same joke in each and every strip.

Edited on Sat May-29-04 02:44 AM by fortyfeetunder
..she reminds me of a friend, same neuroses, and everything, and engaged to boot. I can't see my friend often but Cathy is good entertainment.

but the one I hated (and maybe from a lack of appreciation) was Lil' Abner.

24. the vast majority of newspaper strips are never funny to me.
The ones I like nowadays are "Dilbert" , and "Doonesbury". What happened to the days of "Calvin&Hobbes", "Bloom County", "The Far Side" or "Bizarro"?

Some editorial cartoons make me laugh like hell (Mike Luckovich especially), but some like Ranan Lurie's piss me off no end.

I don't really hate any of them, but I rarely read any of them. I much prefer to read on-line comics, like Penny-Arcade or Red Meat

28. BRING ME THE HEAD OF BIL KEANE!!!!!
'Family Circus' is the worst drivel in the paper, hands down. What a bunch of sappy, unfunny crap.

Although this site makes them funnier:

http://www.drivenbyboredom.com/gallery/gallery.php?x=26

The Dysfunctional Family Circus!

I also loathe "Mallard Fillmore" and "For Better or for Worse". Just awful.

35. Mallard the Duck Is the Worst, But Also Boycott Family Circus
The duck for the obvious ideological and non-comedic reasons. Family Circus because of one time, about ten years ago, when the dad was in his hammock (in white shirt, slacks, glasses, and shoes and socks, natch), with the portable radio playing, and the girl said to the boy, "Shhhh, you KNOW we can't make noise while Daddy is listening to Rush (LIMBOsevic)." Have skipped it ever since-------feel the repercussions of my earthshaking boycott yet?
