1. I never looked twice at Tom Cruise until Mission Impossible.
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 04:12 PM by tjdee
In fact, I didn't like him at all and thought he was on the homely side. That all changed after Mission Impossible, LOL, although I still can't watch his early work, it's irritating for some reason--maybe it's that the characters are all cocky snots. Top Gun makes me want to hurt something, LOL!

But I voted for Magnolia. Strong work there. Born on the Fourth of July I've not seen, but wasn't he nominated for an Oscar for that too?

Tom's alright, even if he's a Scientologist... He has a strong strong work ethic and he hired Thandie Newton instead of Tara Reid/Mandy Moore/etc. for MI2. Interested to see the Last Samurai.

11. Tom Cruise sucks
Risk Business was a cool movie, but Cruise is just crap. Shitty actor, and his movies are pathetic cliche-ridden drivel.

Top Gun must rank as one of the world's highest caliber cliche shit-writing pieces of *@*^$ ever created. I cringe to think of that POS. Oh, God, it's just AWWWFULLLLLL, absolutely, and entirely. Ewwwwwww.

I can't believe anyone takes it seriously.

Well filmed, sure. I'll give it that. But the dialogue and the acting and the story and the plot and the writing and the . . . ewwwwww, the crapitude factor is positively biblical.

4. I don't like Tom Cruise
but I did like Jerry Maguire because most of it was filmed in my hometown and Cuba Gooding Jr. deserved the Oscar he got. Also, my 2 favorite teams were in the movie. Arizona State and the Arizona Cardinals.

6. Don't forget Minority Report
But I liked Magnolia a lot. Tom gets to play a repulsive, soulless lizard.

10. Magnolia
is easily the best movie in a very long time. Tom Cruise set a new standard for himself in a glorious performance. I despised him before Born on the 4th of July. It's amazing what a good role with a great director will do to an actor. Now I actually look forward to his performances.

But Magnolia, easily, hands down, his best work *ever*.

P.S. Frank T. J. Mackey has a soul, he just lost it for a while.

12. Rain Man, though it's really a Dustin Hoffman film
Trust me. It must have been almost as hard for a "neurotypical" like Hoffman to unlearn so much of his natural body language, intonation, etc. as it would be for me to become a "typical" (or, by way of comparison, for a Repuke to act like a civilized human being!).
