Apparently going through that did some weird things to his ego. While I give him major props for his superb musical talents and his obviously sincere expressions of conscience. In fact, I continue to be a fan. I am, however, pretty disappointed in the way he "came out". I have very litttle rrespect for anyone who chooses to act out sexually in a public toilet. It's incredibly inconsiderate (kids might go in there) and gross. George has enough money to get a hotel room, go to a sex club, get a call boy, whatever - but no - he had to go acting like some sicko. If he had come out before the incident, I would have respected him for it, but he came out after, BECAUSE of the arrest when he had no choice.
Everybody knew George was probably gay when they saw the "Wake Me Up" video. He should have come out when he put out the Listen Without Prejudice album - at that time he rrenounced his formal showbiz identity and said that he had to be for real - it would have been the perfect time...
Even now, he still balks at the idea of being a pop star, and complains about stardom way too much. He's pals with Elston John, but he apparently never picked up the "trouper" psychology that deffines all the best performers with staying power.
That being said, I still like him, and his music. I hope he gets all his gloominess worked out so he can go back to doing the fun, rollicking pop that made him famous, as well as the thoughtful music that adds a great deal of depth to his disccography.
