City Council Wants To Ban The Sale Of Previously Worn Underwear

The scourge of skeevy skivvies would be removed from clothing stores if the City Council approves a bill that would ban the sale of previously worn underwear.

The measure, introduced in March by Councilman Tony Avella (D-Queens), would ban stores from reselling undergarments that have been returned for refunds by their original purchasers.

Avella introduced the measure after TV news reports revealed that numerous stores engaged in the practice of reselling underwear that had been returned.

The reports, which aired in November and February on WCBS-TV, showed that returned underwear was offered for sale at national chains such as Macy's, Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, Gap, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue.

The resale of returned underwear is currently legal in the city.

15. Silly me - I always thought one couldn't return underwear that wasn't

still in it's original packaging. Wouldn't that solve the problem? What is the reason anyone would return underwear anyway? It's not as if you get the underwear home and say, "Oh, that doesn't look good on me at all."

On second thought - I guess one might have reason for returning a slinky Victoria's Secret number if it hadn't performed as hoped.
