Edited on Wed May-26-04 11:41 AM by pagerbear
My score was a surprise!

You scored 8, on a scale of 0 to 30. Here's how to interpret your score:
0 - 10
Risk-free. Your Cynicism level is very low.
11 - 20
Somewhat cynical. Your Cynicism level is probably high enough to be of some concern.
21 - 30
Severe cynic. Your Cynicism level is very high.

2. It's a weird test...
On many of these, I do neither. (For instance, if I see an overweight person walking by, I usually don't think either "lack of self control" or "metabolic disorder." I usually don't process it at all.)

On others, it's both -- Lines are an unavoidable fact of life that are often due to someone's incompetence.

I scored a 16, right in the middle.

4. Yes, some of the answers are VERY misleading
Many of those didn't apply to me at all, but I just went with what I would imagine I'd think/do if it did.

13. I'm with ya
When traffic slows down, I just figure "something unusual ahead". I don't thnk about whether it's construction or an accident or an animal in the road.

The obese person thing: I either don't process at all, or wonder, "Are they out of control? I wonder if it's psychological, physical, or simply a lack or unwillingness to just control themselves? Maybe bad parenting? Maybe they're depressed?" and then I think, "Who cares? It is what it is."

I had a problem with a number of those questions.

And long lines are an unavoidable fact of life, sometimes due to incompetence.

I scored a 14, btw

26. Same here -- I quit the test because on too many questions I
could answer either option with equal truth.

6. A 10.
Incredible. I am very cynical in some aspects, but like other posters, most of those situations didn't offer a course of action I'd follow...so I had to pick the closest one.

I am such a polyanna!

Actually cynicism and anger are not the same thing. A really good attitudes measure would be a lot more complex than this!

15. Those possible answers don't tell the entire story
Edited on Wed May-26-04 12:08 PM by DS1
Q1. I am in the express checkout line at the supermarket, where a sign reads: NO MORE THAN 10 ITEMS, PLEASE!
1. I pick up a magazine to pass the time.
2. I glance ahead to see if anyone has more than ten items.
3. I think screaming babies should count as 2 items, and vocalize my thoughts.

Q2. Many large cities have a visible number of homeless people.
1. I believe that the homeless are down and out because they lack ambition.
2. The homeless are victims of illness or some other misfortune.
3. I dump the change in my pockets in their hands, but only if they convincingly grovel and kiss my shoes

Q3. The prevalence of AIDS has reached epidemic proportions.
1. This is largely the result of irresponsible behavior on the part of a small proportion of the population.
2. AIDS is a major tragedy.
3. I'm glad I don't have it.

Q4. There is a really important job to be done.
1. I prefer to do it myself.
2. I am apt to call on my friends or co-workers to help.
3. I hop on DU and find another "fun" personality test and proceed to spend 15 minutes writing snarky answers complete with html tags.

Q5. The cars ahead of me on an unfamiliar road start to slow and stop as they approach a curve.
1. I assume there is a construction site ahead.
2. I assume someone ahead had a fender bender.
3. Lean on my horn, hope it drowns out the obligatory asshole on the cellphone in front of me.

Q11. I am requesting a seat assignment for an airline flight.
1. I usually request a seat in a specific area of the plane.
2. I generally leave the choice to the agent.
3. I ask for a window seat, remember I'm flying Southwest, and after some screaming little shits get all the good ones (notably all strategically placing themselves to have every inch of the plane amply covered with that mysteriously soul-piercing whine, and not being all sequestered to the back like they should be) can only get an aisle seat, then get my head smacked by the snack cart as I sleep. Nevermind, Southwest don't do snacks.

Q12. My spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend is preparing a meal.
1. I keep an eye out to make sure nothing burns or cooks too long.
2. I either talk about my day or read the paper.
3. I warm up my index finger.

Q13. I see people walking around in shopping malls.
1. Many of them are either shopping or exercising.
2. Many are wasting time.
3. I clothesline the first old person I see, to send a message to the others. They look slow, but I know better.

Q14. My spouse, boyfriend, or girlfiend is going to get me a birthday present.
1. I prefer to pick it out myself.
2. I prefer to be surprised.
3. I'm already asking for the receipt.

Q15. Slow-moving lines can often be found in banks and supermarkets.
1. They are an unavoidable part of modern life.
2. They are often due to someone's incompetence.
3. Because of people like you.

There was no "I'll reserve judgement until I see more clearly what the slowdown is about"

I'm stuck either way, might as well make the most of it.

"Risk-free. Your Cynicism level is very low."

Funny though, I tend to see myself as cynical sometimes, but probably it's more like justifiable anger in certain situations.

I suppose in actuality, I'm rather an optimistic type (not always easy, but it's still me nonetheless). :)
