Edited on Tue May-25-04 01:46 PM by elfwitch
One night, a week, a month, more than that?
Have you ever been in the slam?

2. Yeah, but I had a "get out of jail free" card.
Unfortunately, I did not pass "Go," nor did I collect $200. :(

13. My motto --" In more ways than one!"
They let you off easy because you were a one-time offender.

And to be honest, it helped that I found you less than offensive.

8. Do you mean IN one, or AT one?
I've never been IN one, but I've been AT one - to meet the cop that I was going on a civilian ride-along with. By the way, I highly recommend going on a ride-along some time. It's instructive to see a typical night shift cop on patrol.

12. How does one arrange a ride-along?
Do all police departments have them?

My older boy is almost 17, and I'm wondering if this might be a good experience for him, since he likes to push the limits.

20. I think you have to be 18
at least the Seattle Police Department requires you to be 18. Most larger police departments have some kind of community liaison program such as ride-alongs. Usually what you do is to go to the station and fill out a ride-along request form. I went with a cop who's an acquaintance, so it was a little simpler for me. You sign a waiver and tell them what shift you'd like to ride along on, etc.

11. My father, the cop, locked me in cells on a fairly regular basis,
all in fun, but I learned that having one's freedom taken away is one of the worst things you can do to a person.

I have also had occasion to supervise construction work in a variety of prisons and jails. They make me physically ill. The harder the prison, the more the miasma affects me. The worst was a maximum security psychiatric centre, they were not only nasty, they were crazy. We were there to improve sight lines in the showers due to murders in the showers. Not a nice place
