Picnic of Love is the hilarious album consisting entirely of what sound like Bon Jovi acoustic b-sides, such as "I Respect Your Feelings as a Woman and a Human" and "Saving Ourselves for Marriage." It's something you have to hear to believe, really.

Revolver, Loveless, London Calling, Closer, What's Going On, Exile -- all easily top-100 for me (though there's no way in hell I'd ever wanna try and formalize a top-100 list).

But I do like "Rubber Soul" better than "Revolver," and prefer both "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" and "Man Who Sold the World" to "Low." Mere quibbles, really, when talking about artists such as Bowie and the Beatles.

A lot of folks didn't like that the last 2 Pixies albums didn't sound like the first 3. For that matter, Frank Black lost a lot of sales in the early days because he didn't sound like the Pixies.

That's the BEST thing about the Pixies -- they EVOLVED.

The POP IDIOM by 1991 had shifted to Pixies circa '88! Therefore, as they had gone forward, the milieu had gone back; and they had become, once again, just like Billy Pilgrim, unstuck in time.

There's so much hype surrounding this band, there's no WAY they could be that good. I've heard 'em.....They're okay; just okay. the goddamn British music press takes these above average-but not excellent- bands and inflates them into "the second coming of _______" and then you hear 'em and you're like "Jeez, they sound like Pavement crossed with the Strokes, the lyrics are the same old impressionistic nonsense, the singer sounds bored, and the guitar player uses a chorus pedal sometimes." BFD.

Meanwhile, in the power-pop underground, there's thousands of bands who are inventive, have singers who can sing, capable instrumentalists, and facile songwriting, but the press shuns them because they're "retro."

YES, I'M A CRANKY OLD MAN AT THE TENDER AGE OF 29.


I'd rather listen to Everclear (the band) than Franz Ferdidnand; there's simply more going on there. It's all subjective anyways......

Believe it or not, I actually like the Nico MORE than the Henske-Yester! I totally avoided Nico for so long since I hate that first VU album (Sorry, I think it's unintentionally funny, esp. Nico's songs), but man, did she ever improve! She can actually SING on Marble Index; who'da thunk it? And the backing is exquisite.

Thanks for that CD...nothing beats listening to Nico drone on about shipwrecks and skeletons on a warm sunny spring day.

VU & Nico is probably my least favorite VU record. I certainly don't hate it, but I do find it to be WAY overrated. After that and "Chelsea Girls," though, who woulda thought Nico could write her own songs? GOOD songs? And those avant-Cale arrangements are suhweet!

The last song on the H/Y album is one of my favorite songs ever. About 2 minutes in, when Jerry's voice gets all distorted, and he's droning on about how "Alpha Centauri, it is too far to come to die" or whatever he's saying... damn!

Along with quite a few artists on there...

Like regardless of what theProfessor might say (although Rubber SOul is an excellent album) I dunno how to choose a favorite Beatles record, or a favorite Pink floyd record, or Miles and so on..

The only two I'm really sure on are Beastie Boys-Paul's Boutique and Hendrix-Axis. those two works speak to me personally more than the rest of those artist's respective works...Oh and add Angel Dust on there (I like it more than other FNM strictly for the production ...perhaps the best produced rock and roll record ever).

73. Y'know, I have to tip my hat to "Angel Dust's" production as well.

I wouldn't rank the album as highly as you do (I find the second side to be kinda dull), but it does sound great.

It certainly doesn't hurt that hundreds of bands most people think are "better" than FNM never recorded a song half as good as "Land of Sunshine," either.
