Has anyone read any of Vince Flynn's novels?
They're political intrigue...with a character, Mitch Rapp, who's a counterterrorist/assassin with the CIA. Flynn's latest book is "Memorial Day", in which members of Al-Quida have gained possession of a nuclear device to take out Washington, D.C.

Flynn's books are so good...but I have a bit of remorse each time I read one of them. Methinks Vince Flynn is a bit of a right winger, in the Tom Clancy mode.

1. I've read all six, and
Flynn IS a right winger. All you have to do is read "Term Limits" to know that.

Each book advocates violence instead of negotiation, and is set up so that negotiating is actually the stupidest imaginable option. In "Memorial Day" Rapp shoots guys in the head to intimidate others, and people who protest that are mocked as stupid and naive - because the plot only leaves one option.

Limbaugh loves Flynn's books, which should tell you something. I read them for the same reason that I've read conservative pundits - to know what the other guy is thinking.

2. Oh, God. Limbaugh likes him...
Now I feel slimy.

In his latest one, he has one of the characters going off on the Patriot Act. It's obvious Flynn supports it.

3. Yes, the slutty lawyer, right?
The six-foot leggy blonde? She's the one with the ambition and the hatred for the Patriot Act, right?

And she gets made a fool of later in the book.

I first heard of him through Limbaugh, around the time Flynn's fourth book came out. I warn you that if you choose to read that one (I admit, it isn't bad - at least not as bad as Memorial Day), you need to read the third one first (the fourth is a TBC of the third).

4. That's the one. She was the assistant Attorney General.
I've read Term Limits and Executive Action. I WAS reading Memorial Day, but back it goes to the library.

I felt a growing unease as I read his books. The bureaucrats who get in Rapp's way all seem to be liberals...and the assistant AG is another one.

I did cringe when you told me that Limbaugh likes Flynn and his books. That's enough for me...

5. I advise you to finish "Memorial Day."
It never hurts to know what the other side thinks, and you liked his writing before this thread. This one is further right than the two you mention, but when you're done you'll have a better understanding of how Repugs think.
