My Cats and i have a poop problem!
My two cats/kittens (10 months old) Have begun playing with their own poo! Their litter box has a cover, but they have been sticking their heads into the box and pulling out their dried crap and pushing it around on the floor. I try to clean the box daily, but i sometimes can't get to it in time. I try to give them toys that are small (like their poo) that they can push around, but they only seem interested in poo! What can i do to stop this?

Thanks!

Here are the little trouble makers:

2. Are you sure they aren't dogs in cat suits?
I've never known a cat to do this, however Pad Thai once deposited a missive in my chair when I left him for the weekend.

Hope they come to their senses.

4. Aww. They're cuties! Look like twins.
Get a spray bottle or watergun and douse them every time you catch them going after the poo. They should get the message pretty quick.

10. Well, you don't want to accidentally train them to fear the litterbox
or yer gonna have bigger problems than poo play.

12. Well maybe not when they're IN the the litterbox.
But a few squirts while they're rolling their packages around the floor should do it. Worked for my cat on a number of issues. Fortunately the poo problem was not one.

5. Probably a phase they are going thru, says my cat loving GF (she has
a dozen pet cats). Sez you should try playing with them alot with a string or something, to keep them tired and out of that room.

Also, she sez put the kitty litter up a little bit higher so they've got to jump a bit to get into it, and where it won't be as easily accessible for them to get at their, er, tootsie rolls.

7. I agree that it's just a phase
Keep them as distracted as possible with other things. I like the suggestion of putting the litter higher, too.

They are SO cute! I've never seen two kitties who looked so amazingly alike!

6. Try cleaning more than once a day
Edited on Tue May-25-04 08:02 AM by Teddy_Salad
I have three kitties and I clean their litterbox every single time I see that one of them has been in there.

I work from home so I can do this and I understand you might not be able to.

Just a suggestion.

P.S. They are very cute kitties. They have trouble written all over their faces. :loveya:

14. Buy this
LitterMaid Computerized Litter Box. A few minutes after they use it the litter box cleans itself. It does work for my house.

You can find some info at this link.

21. I'll second that!
I love my LitterMaid. I'm on my second one (a switch on the first one broke - had to be a fluke), and they are WELL worth the money. I clean the tray on mine about once a week. Have a to do a major cleaning every once in a while (dump all the litter, wash the pan with disinfectant - like Lysol cleaner, change the tray and add new litter), but that's only once every two months or so.

I've heard that some cats take a little time to get used to it, but mine went right up to it and peed as soon as I added the litter the first time. It took ME longer to get used to the random noise coming from that room.

23. I purchased the large one
As I have three cats, but I haven't found the best litter for it. Any suggestions? I used to use Swheat Scoop, but that litter will harden like cement on the bottom.

25. I use ExquisiCat Scoopable
It's the PetSmart brand, and it works as well as any other I tried. I love the Swheat Scoop idea, but it doesn't work worth a damn in a Litter Maid.

19. They look like twins they are dolls
Edited on Tue May-25-04 08:46 AM by Lou_C
They will grow out of it they are just being playful babies.

The stinky toy would irritate me and it might teach them to poo on the floor.

If you have the funds you should buy one of those self cleaning litter pans and it will get rid of the turds right away.
