Dating the Asian tapeworm
Asian tapeworms (Bothriocephalus acheilognathi) are small members of the Class Cestoda, which infect wild fish species. Currently there is an effort being made to isolate the Asian tapeworm from spreading into many water courses in the Western US. Since reproduction is only accomplished by sexually mature individuals, it is important to be able to determin an individual's age. The process is called "dating" the tapeworm. Does anyone know any methods for dating Asian tapeworms?
