1. Me, too
I hate reality TV. Never watch any of the other shows, but this one has me hooked. I love these guys. I wish they could come and makeover my house (and me too, even though I am female.)

I guess what I like about it is that it is all in good fun. Nobody has to jump off a cliff or eat worms or lay down in a bed of scorpions. Everyone seems to be having a good time.

5. What amazes me
is the same thing---somehow they seem to really zero in on making the guy the best *he* can be rather than fitting the guy into some mold of "hip"

They are hilarious and some of the straight guys are a hoot as well. I was not impressed with the guy I saw last night---a Staten Island transit cop who said some amazingly insensitive things.

I'm certainly learning some odd things as well: manscaping, for one...

Its the only "reality" show I could ever stand---although an occaisional "trading spaces" when my addicted colleague gives me a heads up on a particularly bitchy reaction or ugly make over can make me tune in.

3. Great show.
Much better than it has any right to be. Told my roomie that she should call these guys to come and help me out. She seems to think it wouldn't help. I'm still debating if I should feel insulted or not.

6. I like it too. . .
And, yes, sometimes it is hilarious. But I think "endearing" is an even better word. The Fab Five obviously care about the straight guy, and you can tell that they feel a sincere stake in their success. And I love the openness and total lack of any kind of self-consciousness by the straight guys - they don't feel threatened and they are completely comfortable with the gay guys. The show ain't perfect, and probably no more "real" than Trading Spaces, but I love that it provides a very positive picture of a future where sexual orientation is "no biggie."

for a fashion consultant, he could sure use . . . well . . . a fashion consultant . . . he's great at dressing the straight guys, but often seems to be wearing their castoffs . . . go figure . . .

13. Me too! I adore the show.
I liked the one was where they set the cabana up in the back yard and that poor straight guy had to put those chocolate desserts together. All the gay guys were holding their breaths hoping the girl would accept the proposal, you could tell they didn't think she would. Good show!

14. As a gay guy, I like the show.
But, it seems to make all gay guys stereotypically 'designer' know-it-alls! :-)

Believe me, I know a lot of hip, designer-perfect, gay folks. But, I also know a lot of laid-back gay people who are just as comfortable without all of the frills and squeaky-clean nuances of these guys.

Personally, I particularly like the guy who does the 'grooming' bit on the show. He's terrrific...and, he's cute, too! I can appreciate what he promotes because I started using a 'moisturizer' in 1966 when I was 18 years old! This was just before it was acceptable for guys even to use hair dryers! Can you imagine?

My partner of 30 years is somewhat of a slob. Yes, but, a loveable one at that!

I suppose if it weren't for Bush...and, all of the time I spend on DU...well, this home of ours could be a 'designer palace.' But, it's not, so we have to live with it.

Yes, I would love it if they would do an episode of 'making over' a gay couple. We can always learn...and, have a good time, too!

:D

16. I am somewhat conflicted
I really hate the title for one. I know we are taking back the word and all of that but still for this gay man the word just is not good. Too many times I have heard it while being humiliated at school and for me that is that. I also think that the show does cater to stereotypes a wee bit too much. Last night's was very bad in that regard.

But I also do like the guys especially Kyan and Ted. They also have usually picked really decent straights to work with ( I really loved that one who was proposing he was flat out hot). I also have learned some great cooking tips (like how to make vinagrette).

So I guess I am unsure what I think,

17. I can see that
It is a strange show in that from the outside it looks very weak, stereotypical, and patronizing. I can easily see some people getting turned off this show without having seen it. I know I went in cautiously.

It has such a make you feel good vibe though. It really is a very sweet show.

18. It is
All of the guys are utterly likable which is a big help. I could easily see the part at the end with them on the couch becoming a gigantic bitch fest if they had less endearing men in the fab five.

I wish they didn't use the Q word. I have a lot of bad memories, too.

"Gay Eye For The Straight Guy" would be far preferrable! :-)

21. I Had Mixed Feelings Too... I Recall Being Tormented As The "QUEER"
in middle and high schools.

BUT... it's good that we're taking back the word and it's (in some circles) beginning to be "fashionable" (pardon the pun) to be queer again.

Okay... favorites in the Fab-Five? Thom and Kyan, definitely. Carson is funny but a little too "ON" for me. Jai is cute, but a little to petite. Ted reminds me of an ex I don't like... so that's something I'll just have to work out on my own.

The Virginia Cowboy (proposal-guy) with the tattoos was definitely HOT... I'll agree with you there.

27. I must have been oblivious in HS
I don't remember anyone being tormented. I look back now and think of friends who I now realize were gay, but I didn't really know it at the time. If any of you were in school with me I would have kicked the butt of anyone who tormented you ...... and then you probably would have been mad at me.

Actually I wouldn't have had to kick their butts, I have a really scary mad face and a nasty sarcastic tongue when I am pissed off and nothing gets me more angry than bully behavior.

31. Kyan, for me,
is the most interesting of the guys -- he always seems to be drawing the straight boys out and asking the "emotional" questions -- I really like that. And that he's hot is a extra bonus. :) That sideview shot of him in the black bikinis almost had my friend Hector fall off the couch -- what's he packing in there, good lord!

Did you catch next week's preview with the guy bench pressing Jai? I think he has an exquisite looking face, but I do know that the slender/small gay guys can have trouble getting the dates.

And I have a two degrees of seperation from Thom -- the "Carson" in my life is apartment mates with a gal who was Thom's roommate in college. I like him a lot too, he does great things with what he's working with.

34. It is a tough line
and maybe I am too sensitive. I do think it is somewhat an age thing. Clearly LGBT in their 20's have a much different attitude than those in their 30's and above in this regard. I know from teaching that queer is less used now than when I was in school. At least it is around my earshot. Still gay eye for the straight guy has a nice ring to it.

At first the title was a little off-putting. I didn't know what it was. But once I watched it I can't stop!

It's touching...it really is. And I (a straight female) am learning so much from these guys. My husband won't even consider manscaping though.

I like Ted. He's got a fantastic voice. Carson was interviewed in Newsweek a couple weeks ago and said the one 'celebrity' he'd like to make-over was George W!

It's the ONLY TV show since Farscape that I make a point of not missing.

I love Thom, that man's a genius in what he can accomplish in three days on a limited budget. Carson's absolutely hilarious, and Kyan is too hot for words.

28. I have only watched it a couple of times, but have enjoyed it. I liked
how they went back to check up with the painter from the first episode and he reverted back to quite a few of his slobbish ways. Except for the hair. It was a stitch. I have always wondered how many people revert back after those room, self, life makeover shows.

29. It shows the sweet side of relationships
which you rarely see on television. The couples genuinely care about each other. The straight men are so eager to please the women. And the women are so appreciative. (well, except for that bizarre blonde on one episode...the girlfriend about to move in with the guy with the long dark hair). The fashion/design advice is actually useful. Anyone with millions can have a great looking place. It's more fun to see these guys transform without spending thousands. More uplifitng than the stupid reality shows which equate relationships with money. These people seem less materialistic and more motivated by love.

35. I absolutely love this show
the guys are funny without being mean, and snarky without being patronizing. I think a lot of their advice goes unheeded - man, do they ever pick some hardcore slobs to do over! - but Thom alone is worth watching the show for. That guy is a f***ing miracle worker. And it doesn't hurt that all five are superb eye candy. Well, maybe not Ted, but his food advice is great.

Kyan is the hottest thing I've seen on TV in years (droooool), but I fear most of his grooming advice gets forgotten by their makeover subjects in about two days! They're back to washing their hair with bar soap and cleaning their fingernails with their toothbrushes in no time!

I think what they do is astonishing. I loved this week's episode, that utterly beautiful African-American woman coming in and saying, "is this really our house?" looking around at the beautiful remodeling job they'd done. And the guys who were so appreciative of their help that they cried were very touching.

I don't watch TV except for Animal Planet, but I've been making an exception for this show. And I like the name - reclaim the word from its pejorative dungeon! Next word on the list to reclaim - LIBERAL! Maybe someday - FEMINIST!
