(Also known as "the Rolling Stones question") I'd say yes, even though my own face has increased in size at an alarming rate lately. What say you, DU?

1. Having just turned 40
I'd say I've earned every grey hair, every crevace in my face, and every wrinkle.

20. Dammit, I'm 40. How come I'm not getting any lines or gray hairs?
I wanna look distinguished. Apparently God has decided I deserve to look like an aging former child star.

My next job is probably gonna be security guard in a mall parking lot, assuming the drugs don't do me in first.

2. With Bunnypants in office....
I have done more than my share of aging in the past 3.5 years. Let's have some equal representation of both sides of the isle and I would be a lot more happier.

4. The Chinese saying: you live with the face you're born with the first
40 years of your life. You live with the face you've earned the second 40 years.

6. It's all in the Genes!
I'm lucky, my mom aged very well. I still have enough oil in my skin that I don't dry out and need lots of moisturizer so I have very few wrinkles (I'm 47). Just some light laugh lines around the eyes.

I have avoided the sun and used sunscreen when I couldn't and I use retin a to give my skin a fresh look. I don't smoke and that helps a lot also.

My mom told us girls when we were teenagers to do 3 things and we would never regret it - stay out of the sun, wear good bras and moisturize! She was soooo right.

11. My mom is 58 and looks like early 40's......very early....
I can never see a wrinkle on her face.....it's the genes in our family, I'm 35 (almost 36) and SOME people still mistake me for a college student.

Also, I'm petite, and petite women are like puppies, you never know how old they are. (heard that expression and thought it was kind of cute!) ;)

I'm not a sun freak, but really should make it a point of using sunscreen anyways. :)

21. I agree
My family ages well. I live a clean life (no smoking, no drugs, minimal drinking, healthy food), I'm not a heavy sunworshipper, and I wear a sunscreen/moisturizer daily for over ten years. I'm 32 and most people think I'm much younger. My mom's 55 and she still looks like she's in her early 40's.

There's exceptions though. My husband partied a lot in his 20's and never ate well back then, but at 41 look more like he's my age. I can't complain about that. :D

7. absolutely not
Although attributed to Abe Lincoln, I hope he didn't say it. It is a stupid and cruel remark, and his face wasn't anything to write home about either by the way.

The best faces after 40 go to those who can afford to maintain them -- having both money and time to do so. It is strictly a question of cash.

And I just hate condescending crap about the beauty of wrinkles and about how one has "earned" their wrinkles, we all know that wrinkles are the booby prize.

8. Well, I'm 41
and in my ever so humble opinion, I look like a million dollars, if I don't say so myself! Hope that means I've done something good in my life.

10. I'll be 42 in July
and I have a youthful face. I have no wrinkles in my basic expression, though you can see some crows' feet and laugh lines when I smile and laugh.

I never smoked, I use sunscreen liberally and don't go out in the heat of the day, I eat enough "good" fats like olive oil.

One thing I'm not good at doing is keeping hydrated. I forget to drink enough water some days.

12. I've started taking Silica gel.......
it supposedly helps maintain skin elasticity and suppleness. Great for hair and nails as well.

You get it at any health food store. :)

Edited on Sun May-23-04 02:14 PM by camero
Sometimes it's a curse.

edit: Just to clarify. I'm 37 and I can't see my face changing much at 40.

18. around 35-40 is when the sun damage, smoking etc..
start to take its toll.

I have friends my age that look 15 years older than me because of genes, abuse to the skin etc...

I hated oily skin when I was a teen, but now it is a huge blessing as I have no wrinkles at 47 other than a few when I laugh around my eyes. Good genes!! - thanks Dad :-)
