Sadat did the right thing. He realized that the Jewish State wasn't going away and he realized that a constant state of war wasn't going to do his country any good in the long run. He was right. The goons and thugs and, yes, CONSERVATIVES (afraid of change, of progress), who killed him and those who ordered it were wrong.

DH's uncle was on the reviewing stand when Sadat was shot. It was tragic, not just for him, his family and Egypt, but for moderate Islam as a whole.
