5. So, to "spell" in binary

do you assign a base ten number to each letter of the alphabet (in order), then convert that to binary? If this is the case, mine would be:

10 111 1100 1100 111 101

I learned different bases in 7th grade math. About 10 years ago I was teaching an SAT prep class and tried to explain this to the kids (sophomores and juniors) and they'd never heard of it. Some of the computer savvy kids sort of got binary, but the others were lost. Not sure what value base eight is anyway.... binary, I can see.
