Poll question: Cell phone users: Did you dump your 'land line'?
Just curious, I'm heavily considering it.

1. Yep...the only people who called me on it were telemarketers.
I just have my cellphone now. It works for me.

2. Nope.
I just use it for an internet connection, though. (That's right, I have a dial-up. Everyone pity me.)

I exclusively use my cellphone for all phone-call-related activities, though.

3. How much do you pay for dial-up?
(I like DSL, but am counting my options...)

6. Yeah, I decided to stick with a landline even though I have a cell
You had made a recommendation when I asked about this a week ago. Verizon basic service (no long distance, no voicemail, no nothing) is $12 I think they said. I'll know for sure when I get my first bill.

20. Yipes. Expect other things to happen from them too...
Verizon's towers are the ones Sprint (and likely other companies) lease for roaming. This means roaming fees from those providers will likely increase.

Will the jobs they create be decent paying jobs ($14+/hr?)

And if they can spend $1.65 bil to buy other companies, they don't need a fucking cent of welfare from our government. x( Pardon my Freedom, but corporate welfare angers me when you consider that they get rid of welfare for people.

Sadly, I have a contract with Verizon until Jan 2006. I am not changing it as I'm locked in to a reasonable price...

9. I did, for two years,
but my job required me to have faxing capability...so I went with a wired line again. However, it is voip, rather than telco.

11. In a heartbeat.
I had been getting nothing but grief from SBC DSL, so I was GLAD to fire SBC and go strictly wireless for phone. Got cable modem for the PC, works much better, no hassles.

SBC is run by fuckers. So is MCI.

I don't really use it much for calls, I use it for the internet so it is just about always busy.

13. I couldn't see spending all that money
for 2 cell phones (one each for both my wife and me) plus another $20 for a land line. We get good reception where I live, and all of our family live out of state, so we never used the regular phone anyway.

Since I have an unlimited night/weekend plan, which is when we make most of our calls anyway, it's been a good deal for my family, too, since I always call them back and use my free long distance rather than their regular pay-as-you-go long distance.

14. I want to get rid of my land line
The problem is i have DirectTV and as a rule you have to keep your box plugged into a phone line.

16. Completely opposite, I dumped the cell phone and reinstated landline
Most ingenious move I've made in at least 5 years. The cell phone is pure hell, worst modern invention by far. Other than for emergency purposes on trips, I will never use one again.

Not only was the reception unreliable and a pain in the ass just to dial a number, but I absolutely can't stand being on call 24 hours a day. Dimwits at the businesses I consult would call while I was on the golf course, in a buffet, or trying to make a sports wager. A girl I was dating would invent a new catastrophe seemingly every 15 minutes.

Now I can luxuriously avoid them. "Oh, you tried to call me?"
