Worst cellphone ringtone?
The other day I heard "The Entertainer," which is certainly a fine piece of music, but more than a little wrong as a ringtone. (For you young folks, it was the theme from The Sting, before that a fairly obscure Scott Joplin ragtime number from 100 years back). Still, I'm sure that you who are more in touch with the 21st century than me (as last count everybody) can top this pretty easily. Again, a poll could result if responses are both numerous and silly enough.

7. I think that may be what "ringtone" means, but can't get a definitive
definition (best kind, that) via googling.

But the all-time champ is the standard Nokia ring - oh how I hate thee!

4. Anything that doesn't sound like a ringer
all songs, melodies, etc. drive me crazy...its like "look at how original I am, I have a phone that sings a song...." or the other lame excuse for it is people saying they need it so they can recognize when their phone rings, two problems with that 1) everyone has the same selection and 2) people still check their phones when they hear something ring that sounds nothing like what theirs sound like.....

better yet....put the dam thing on vibrate - the whole world doesn't need to know you're getting a phone call....

/thus ends my friday afternoon rant....

I wound up having to put it on Vibrate and sticking the phone in my pocket because I missed a few calls when I was around alot of noise.

That was the better way.

12. Personally,
I think that while cell phones do serve purposes in certain situations, the cell phone has risen in this culture as iconic of the look at me socioeconomic demographic. I personally feel that cell phone use in obvious public places is a perfect example of such. An audible cell phone ring is personally frustrating to me, and demonstrates my theory perfectly. ::fur elise:: LOOK AT ME! I'M SO BUSY AND IMPORTANT! Then a sudden release of endorphins in the individual and the ownership of a cell phone is suddenly justified.

14. There's some fairly obnoxious ones
on my brand-new Nextel. I downloaded some nifty new ring tones this morning, though, so I'm safe from a ring that sounds like a dentist's drill.

Motorola evidently doesn't think that anyone would like to have the Queen of Soul's masterwork, "Respect", for a ring tone. They don't have it. As a result, I was forced to go with some lesser ring tones. The main ring is Pachebel's Canon in D. The call alert ring is the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want". I also downloaded Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful"; I like the song.

If the phone had a horn section, (and Motorola had offered it as a selection,) I'd have "B****" by the Stones.

17. Yeah, that's another odd one that occurred to me
although it does tinkle, so it's sort of appropriate for a phone. :)

19. I use Mozart's 40th Symphony,
so I can always tell it's my phone ringing.

Then the girl next to me at work started using the SAME song. Fortunately, she's got a different phone, with a slightly different arrangement, or I'd go nuts.

20. I heard one that sounds like an old-fashioned telephone ring
That was cool. My cellphone doesn't allow for downloaded tones (it the one we got for $0.99 when we subscribed to the service). :-(
