Poll question: Have you ever bought anything because of a tv advertisement?
Extra demerits if it was an infomercial!:D

I suspect most people (including me) could pick any of about five of these choices; just vote for whichever one fits you best at the moment you see this.

1. You know those mylar flying discs you see on tv every other day?
The ones that look like UFOs, that spiral and hover around in the air? I bought two of them for my son. He loves them.

3. The "Vegamatic"
We owned a tavern. Slicing and dicing onions for the burgers was a chore. We saw the Ronco Vegamatic on TV, and bought one. Not only did it do a great job of onions, but it lasted forever. We bought it in the late 60s, and were still using it when we closed the place in '92.

5. I find it hard to believe. . .
. . .that anyone could totally avoid buying anything that's advertised on TV. I've seen commercials for Plastic and for Steel. Those are pretty hard things to dodge.

6. Oxyclean.
I just had to. Cmon, you can't tell me you don't love Billy Mays. Lookie, audio clips of his wacky voice saying crazy crazy things!

As for it's quality? No idea. I've never actually used it on clothing. Just as a prop for a presentation in a Spanish class.

7. My husband used to get sucked in by infomercials
But after the buckwheat pillows (!) and the weird mop didn't work out, he got a little less enthusiastic for buying things you couldn't try out first.

I did buy a steam cleaner because of the infomercial, but only after I researched it thoroughly online. And then I got it in the store at a marked-down price, and it was a different brand. And the OxyClean infomercials got me interested, but there I also waited until other companies came out with equivalent products at a much lower price.

We've picked up some fairly useful things at yard sales that other people had bought from infomercials, like Miracle Thaws. (I love Miracle Thaws!)

I'm not sure I've ever bought anything because of a regular commercial, though. If I did, it was probably another cleaning product. I totally hate cleaning, so I'm a sucker for anything that claims to make it easier.

9. I Have
I've bought 2 infomercial items. First would be the Sobakawa buckwheat pillow. I saw the post above, but for me it's the best pillow I've ever had. Really helps my neck pain. And 2nd was a George Foreman grill, which for me- a single guy, 29 yrs old, living on his own- that's been a God-send :)

14. Several times....
If a commercial or infomercial item looks good, I might try the product. But I am smart enough not to fall for too-good-to-be-true ones. If something sounds like a miracle cure, I'll instantly reject it.

I used to get some hair products I ordered by infomercial. It was years ago, and I don't remember the brand. They were good products, but they sent them every two months, and I got so oversticked, so I cancelled.

I ordered Proactive after seeing the infomercial AND having it recommended by two people I know who had been using it. I'm just not very good at adhering to a regimen, though, so I never got into using all the products consistently.

George Foreman Grill... AWESOME!!!!! Actually, I was waiting for it to come out before he produced it! When I got married back in 93, I saw a grill similar to his at Foley's, but it was like $125, and I didn't figure anyone would buy it for me at that price. But the concept was GREAT! Then, late one night, good ol' George shows up on my TV with almost the same grill for $29.95!!! I couldn't order that sucker fast enough!LOL! I still use it, and have bought two as gifts since, as well.

15. I have no problem with legitimate advertising
or artistic...its the deceptive ads that bother me.

So when product A tells me the product is cheaper, and it is...i'll buy it.

16. The Callendar/Pasta Pot combo....
The pots we got eventually rusted and were thrown away with in a year. But we still have the cheese grater!

On a good note, regular pots & pans folks noticed the brillance of the callendar/pot combo and now you can get one that isn't a cheap piece of crap.

18. Extra Demerits For Me!
I got the Chef Tony Miracle Blade III's from the informercial. I know, i know. But, boy i wanted those knives. Also, bought the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image.

At least in both cases, the products were everything the informercial said. The Ionic Breezes (we bought 2) really do work great. And the knives are the sharpest knives i've ever used. They make slicing and dicing fun!

I think that's it, though. As if 2 sets of demerits isn't enough.

19. I caved during college
...and bought the 2-disc Creedence set from Heartland. I figured they'd already been screwed out of so many royalties it wouldn't matter much.

I still listen to it from time to time. :)
