5. They don't get irony-Here's what happened
Edited on Mon May-17-04 04:02 PM by underpants
At the Donkey basketball fundraiser Bart is messing with one of the donkeys and after teasing it he sticks the carrot in his back pocket. The donkey bites at it and rips off Bart's shorts. Bart is bent over and a photographer takes his picture and everyone thinks he is mooning the flag.

Everyone is po'ed at him so the family goes on cable news and Marge ends up getting upset at an O'Reilly/Mathews yelling type and says "If AMerica is like you then yes I hate America"

They end up in jail (with CLinton, the Dixie Chicks, and elmo-went to wrong fund raiser) and they are put in the Ronald Reagan reeducation center where the US Constitution (look like "I'm just a bill" form schoolhouse rock days) has made Bill O'Rights into a powerless drunk. They meet an old hobo type guy who says he is the "Last registered Democrat" "TAX AND SPEND TAX AND SPEND" and Lisa starts to believe the propaganda presented in cartoon form.

The last Dem helps them escape after they are in the prison talent show (ala The sound of music) "You go on after Al Franken which is good because the cops should have run out of bullets by then"

The end up on a ship sailing back into Ellis island and ready to start their American dream all over again.

It was a scathing satire of the current situation.

4. Tom Bernard positively HATED it!
He was a Dem until his 92.5 KQRS morning show became famous (okay, I too like potty humor...) When the bucks came in, he started to turn.

It's ridiculous, there's very little that he says that isn't distorted in the process. (e.g. "(John Kerry) will raise our taxes 95%" is one of his more outrageous and just as unfounded claims...)

His show also frequents stunts and 'game shows' which are vulgar. Even I wasn't keen on those.

I listen to the station infrequently, and just so I can get out of bed that much more quickly.

I'm sure Rupert Murdoch will censure or censor the show in the future though. Last night's episode is one that nicely made up for numerous episodes of Lisa being far less Lisa-like in terms of political affiliation/liberalism.

Even last year, Boatyard was saying how the show hasn't lost its touch, yadda yadda yadda... (it's been going lame for the last few seasons, with the occasional brilliant episodes such as last night's. Though last night's episode was topical, meaning it'll have lost a lot of meaning in about 5 years (or likely less) as far as the general public is concerned... other 'classic' episodes are not topical. )
