Underrated Cities?
It could be here or abroad.

I live in Raleigh, NC and I have to tell you, this is a great town. Good nightlife, clean, lots of stuff to do, good schools.

Decent (college) sports town, too...

Any others?

5. Roger that...
I used to live in DC. Baltimore has ten times the class and style--a working-class port city with great ethnic restaurants, a first-class university, and a wonderful baseball stadium! Baltimore ROCKS!

A friend of mine from college, Dan Epstein, has lived in Baltimore most of his life and is sort of the city's poet laureate. His work is about the only contemporary poetry I can stand to read.

3. Raleigh is cool
Asheville, NC, is rated among the top small cities for gays and lesbians. And I'm quite fond of Wilmington, but that could be because my mommy is there.

4. Raleigh is good
The triangle area is great all around.
Charlotte, however, is overrated.

7. Halifax, Nova Scotia...
Actually a lot like Baltimore on a smaller scale, and no baseball team... but one of the more livable cities in Canada. Pretty quiet, lots of nice old architecture (as well as some butt-ugly modern stuff), slower pace, nice people, affordable, historical port town... if it had a decent kosher deli it'd have it all!

12. Fort Worth, TX
is a surprisingly cool, livable small city. It's also one of the few places in Texas that isn't 100% Bush-loving Repubs (unlike Big Ugly Dallas, which is about 30 miles away). The city has a loyal contingent of solid Texas Democrats. And all, Molly Ivins for years was the premier opinion columnist for the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.
