Copper Harbor here we come

The vacation starts next Saturday, and we'll be seeing some of the most beautiful scenery Michigan has to offer. First stop is the Leelanau County/Traverse City area, then it's off to Charlevoix, Petoskey, a car tour of just about all of the U.P. culminating in our stay in Copper Harbor on Michigan's northernmost point in the Keewenaw peninsula. Hopefully the cherry blossoms will be in bloom in Traverse City, and we'll see part of the bird migrations coming down from Canada through Keewenaw and on to points southerly. I hear the hawks come through by the thousands this time of year. Don't forget the umbrellas! Can't wait!

5. Be sure to check out the opera house in Calumet

And very historic. Woody Guthrie sang about it. If you're up for an adventurous drive, try the scenic route from Grand Marais to Munising along the top of the Pictured Rocks. It's a 35 mile dirt road but it's beautiful. Check out the Library restrauant in Houghton (stay at the Best Western as you come into town, free breakfast and free drinks in the bar!) and enjoy the drive up to Copper Harbor. It's just gorgeous!

We're going to do the north shore of Superior in June -- can't wait!
