Anyone here ever read Don DeLillo's RUNNING DOG?
And just cracked up when the 'McGuffin' was revealed?

1. Yes.
But I do like DeLillo a lot. Libra and White Noise in particular.

2. I liked the 'McGuffin' in RUNNING DOG...
I liked THE NAMES too. WHITE NOISE was great. Haven't read LIBRA yet.
It's on the to-do list.
I understand someone has optioned GREAT JONES STREET. I'm trying to get my mind around what kind of movie that will make.
I read an interview with DeLillo in a book. When the interviewer introduced himself, DeLillo handed him a business card that said: DON DELILLO. NOVELIST. "I don't want to talk about it."
Gotta love a guy like that....

5. I had to read Libra a couple times to fully get it.
Of course, that's just me. But I think it's great. Maybe it's a masterpiece.

I do love The Names, though. It was the nightmare of real things, the fallen wonder of the world.
'effing beautiful.

Ratner's Star is my favorite by far. I guess I'm the only one to have read it though. If you read the first chapter sentence, you'll get my nickname.

(if you remove N "er's" from the title Ratner's Star, you got a palindrome. :) (sorta, i guess. You see, it's all mathematical, aw screw it.)

The best Delillo site is:

Don DeLillo's America

4. yes...but the ending is pretty sad in light of current events
DeLillo is the best at mixing up the funny stuff and the sad stuff...

7. Gee. I'm glad I started this thread. I just like to babble on sometimes...
...about writers I like. I guess WHITE NOISE was the last of DeLillo's novels I read. LIBRA and MAO seem so daunting. Like I need to set aside some time to tackle them.
I remember reading END ZONE unaware that it wasn't just another novel. It was in a cheap pocketbook edition I picked up at a thrift store. The analogy between football and nuclear war was amazing. It just kinda 'snuck' into my consciousness.
I think DeLillo is really an artist. The only other novelists I've read that pack his kinda punch are Robert Stone and Tom McGuane.
I don't really read that many novels. I read mostly 'non-fiction' about topics that interest me and poetry, all eras up to and including the present.
DeLillo seems to be the best of the best...really grabs one's mind and flips it around....
I know people with expensive educations who read Harry Potter books. I can't figure that out...
