Grim Call On Fatal Wreck a Mystery

LAKELAND -- It was a telephone call that no one would want to make or receive.

Yet someone called Ron Burth on Friday afternoon to tell him that his wife, Linda, had been killed minutes before in a traffic crash on Interstate 4.

The female caller's identity isn't known, but Highway Patrol troopers say she had to be a passer-by. But they don't know how she learned Burth's name and cell phone number.

According to Trooper Larry Coggins, Ron Burth, who was at the couple's future retirement home in Venice, received a call from an 813 area code.

there's no explanation as to why the victim wound up on the wrong side of the interstate.

perhaps the mystery caller has something to do with this?
