Gay marriage

My partner of 22 years and I will attempt to get married on Monday, but what an ordeal it will be.

Cambridge is opening City Hall at 12:01 a.m. Monday for marriage licenses. There will probably be a huge crowd. Once we have our license, we have to contend with the 3 day waiting period, so at 8:30 a.m., we'll go over to the Cambridge Court House and try to get a Waiver of Delay. Hopefully the lines won't be too long. After that, we go back to City Hall and get our final marriage license, and then we can call our Justice of the Peace. If the lines are too long, we'll probably postpone, but it would be fun to get married on the first day that it's legal anywhere in the U.S.

I feel so sorry for the straight people to have had to go through this ordeal for so many centuries. The right to marry is one of those rights kind of like the right to join the military, I suppose. You want it, but do you really?

The funny thing is just because we've been together for a long time and are getting married, we have already been interviewed by the appropriately named Coxnews chain (that has newspapers in the South and Midwest) and at least two other newspapers wanted to interview us as well, but we turned them down. The whole thing is absurd.

Anyone else getting married next week in Massachusetts?

I'm afraid I'll have to continue to live in sin (15 years now). My partner feels one marriage is sufficient for a lifetime (he's divorced).

My only excuse is that I enjoy feeling wicked!

I've been with my partner for 32+ years and have no desire to get married. I respect those who wish to go this route, but I don't.
