Whatever happened to those "flying rods" from all the video recordings?
The story seemed to vanish from coverage soon after it emerged. Was an explanation ever found?

2. They're bugs: moths, mosquitos, other flying insects.
And the Mexico UFOs are 'ball lightning', in case youre wondering.

There's always a reasonable explanation.

3. I remember from the news coverage in Dallas
that these rods showed up in all of the videos the news station had surveyed to search for them. They all looked the exact same, in every news video. They didn't look much like moths to me, but I'm no photographer - or entomologist. Another oddity - why can't I see them in person? Why only on film and video?

5. I'm not sure what Dallas news coverage you're referring too.
But here's an explanation of the 'rods' I'm talkin about:

"a videographic artifact based on the frame capture rate of the videocam versus the wingbeat frequency of the insects. Essentially what you see is several wingbeat cycles of the insect on each frame of the video, creating the illusion of a "rod" with bulges along its length. The blurred body of the insect as it moves forward forms the "rod," and the oscillation of the wings up and down form the bulges. Anyone with a video camera can duplicate the effect, if you shoot enough footage of flying insects from the right distance"

That was from here: http://skepdic.com/rods.html

8. well, the rods site sez that you can see a giant one coming out of the sea
and making ripples and everything, and you don't even need to slow the frames down to see it (as you usually do).

Who knows tho.

6. I fail to see what that has to do with people mistaking insects
for some otherworldly rod things.
