I don't, for 2 reasons.

1. Even if someone gave me a car free, I still couldn;t afford to drive it.
(Gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.)

2. Ever since I was nearly killed in a head on crash in 1980, I've been afraid to drive.
Even when I'm a passenger, if even the slightest thing goes wrong, I panic.

1. I don't. I live in Chicago and it's completely unnecessary.
It's expensive (I have to buy city stickers for one). Gas is expensive. Parking on the street is almost next to impossible (and IF you do find a parking place, you're loathe to leave it).

Plus, we have the CTA, which is one of the best public transit systems in the country. It takes you almost anywhere.

3. If I lived in Chicago, I'd sell my car, too.
No need for one.

4. I sold mine 6 months after I moved here.
And have been happy ever since.

6. ditt--err, me too
On the rare occasions I need a car, I rent one. But there is a HUGE city tax on rentals, something like 18% I think, to take advantage of out-of-towners. I think it's really unfair to charge residents that large a tax as god knows that the Cook County sales tax and property taxes gouge us enough already.

But yeah, the CTA is great, and if you need a cab they are always around.

and she lives in rural Pennsylvania, she never bothered to get her license, it kinda bugs me because when we are at school, I'm her transportation.

5. Me
I live in NYC and take the subway. It has its downside, but I don't miss working in the burbs and dealing with traffic. And I get to read/space out on the train.

7. My bicycle is fine for my transportation.

If the weather is too crappy, I ride the city bus.

But my bike rides fine, even in snow.
