Question for all you snappy dressers
I'm supposed to go to a function tomorrow night that says "cocktail attire". Now, I hardly go anywhere dressy and I'm not too thrilled about having to shell out bucks for something I won't wear. Would this be appropriate (with silk pants), or should I bite the bullet and buy something?

1. Very appropriate
And very very beautiful. I love the color. I can't see from the picture how far it goes down-but it looks like a shirt so A nice black skirt or silky black pants with strappy pumps would go great.

3. Thank you so much
It's a tunic. I am going to get my hair done up some way and get my nails done. That makes me feel a ton better.

8. That's a great idea!
I happen to have some that I bought in a moment of madness that I've never used. Thanks for reminding me of that!

9. Thank you!
I'm looking forward to it but I'm always a little intimidated by big deal affairs. I at least feel more comfortable about what I'm wearing!

11. Gulf Coast cocktail attire:
Take off T shirt, put on Aloha shirt, tail out.
Wear the same shorts.
Kick off flip-flops and slip into pair of docksiders.
If I'm really feeling festive, I accessorize with a couple of strands of Mardis Gras bads.

Have fun!

12. That sounds like my kind of dress up!
I'm so bad about dressing up that I bailed on my niece's 21st birthday party because she required "cocktail attire". I briefly thought about renting a rooster suit, but I went early and left before the party. I'm a bad aunt.

13. That's a pretty blouse
(or tunic?) but why not invest in a simple, classic dress that you will be able to wear many times? I would suggest black or charcoal. You can then dress it up or down, using different jewellery, jackets, scarves, belts, bags, and shoes.

You don't have to spend much. One of my favorite things is a fine cotton(!) black dress that I wear with a denim jacket (blue or white) in the daytime, and in the evening I'd wear it with a pretty cardigan or better jacket, and different trinkets.

Enjoy your cocktail party!

14. I was considering that
I'm having to save my money for the state convention so I'm hoping I can make do with what I have, but I don't want to call attention to myself by not being properly attired. I may yet do that - thanks for the good suggestion.
