since it's the last show....

About 5 or 6 years ago, I was the chairman of an AIDS agency that was a benficiary of the San Francisco AIDS walk. As such, I and the Executive Director were invited to be up on stage at the opening and closing ceremonies. I met a few celebs during these things (Eartha Kitt, Don Johnson, etc.)

But I saw Peri Gilpin, who plays Roz on Frasier in the room we were all assembled in prior to the event. I saw her whisk through the room and go out on the patio. I *KNEW* that could mean only one thing: she was having a cigarette. So I stepped out there, and her back was to me. I lit a cigarette and said "Oh good, another smoker." She turned around and laughed and introduced herself. We chatted for about 10 minutes and she could NOT have been nicer, more self-effacing, more generous. The ED came out and got a picture of us together. I still have a printout somewhere - I should scan it. It's the two of us camping up our cigarette smoking for the camera.

She was a real doll.

she was wearing sweats and a tee-shirt, I believe. No makeup. She's very very pretty in person.

It was such a pleasure to hang out with her for a little while. Unlike that scary Eartha Kitt... *shudder*

4. The day I met "Roz"...

This was also about 6 years ago, during the "impeachment" proceedings. I was at a recording studio in LA, and wandered to the kitchen area to take a break. There were a handful of people there, watching CSPAN. Peri Gilpin walked out from another studio with a concerned look on her face. I was on the edge of the group watching TV, and she said, "Do you know where the bathroom is?" I told her, and she hurried off.

True story. :)
