Songs you wish you had written
I was listening to Chain Gang of Love by the Raveonettes a lot over the weekend and I really like the cut That Great Love Sound. Big full Buddy Holly reverby, unrequited love/lust song. Perfect for blasting in the car and full of hooks and melodies. And I thought, wow, wish I had written that.

I also feel that way about:

Chinatown by Luna
So Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols
(won't put in any jazz, since I do not have composing skills!)
Ball Of Confusion
It's the End of the World As We Know It - REM

So on this fine Monday consider music you love and wish YOU had written.

8. Vincent is so beautiful
it was the first sad beautiful song that I heard in high school that really seemed to explain feelings well.

13. It sure is.
I'm not very sentimental, but the first time I heard that song was on the car radio. I had to pull the car over and stop. I couldn't believe what an amazing piece of poetry I was hearing. I very seldomly have the feelings expressed in that song, but I sure as hell respect the artistry of "Vincent."

5. nice choices
I agree with the XTC.. my so is a big XTC head. And Senses Working Overtime does seem accessible for a writer, in a way. I hear that one in my sleep, I hear it so much.

I also love Wild Horses (and Dead Flowers) -that sounds funny together!

:hi: how are ya this morning, well it's now noonish here.

7. I love that song by the Dandy Warhols
Lyrically, I think "Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffet and "Coming Up Close" by 'til Tuesday are about as good as it gets.

19. I missed the Rafii thing
with my son. Initially he only liked bluegrass and classical, and now he likes Captain Beefheart and They Might Be Giants. He did like Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer though.

22. over the hills and far away...
that one is cool... you cant go to a music store and not hear it... that and stairway... but i think stairway to heaven was a bit pretentious, although be it a good song.

otherwise... Voodoo Cile and Little wing... both thought up by hendrix...

anything else... i cant really think of any more that i would want my name on, sure theirs plenty of cool music out there... but i wouldnt want my name on it.
