Greetings from Hell
Just got back to Hell (Columbus GA) from a 3 week stint in the DC area fro training. How did I know I was back?
I got on the airport shuttle (1 1/4 hr ride) and the first 2 people on the bus are fundies. Couple of women that immediately-even though they didn't know each other- start up on Jesus. I'm not anti-religious or against Christianity, but being around fundies is not my idea of a good time. Why? Here's some scenes from the conversation:
-9/11 was a tragedy because of all the people that died that weren't saved. The people that died that were saved are OK, but those people that weren't saved, went to hell.
-The passion play on Easter locally was apparently amazing. One of the women sat in the front row, and as they were whipping Christ, he fell RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER! Of course, if someone could witness that and not immediately be converted, they are evil.
Home again, home again. Jiggety jig.

1. Had a fundie at a job I was recently fired from
Who wanted to know what
denomination or faith I belonged to. Asked me if I was one of those intellectuals.

The best thing I could say was I don't discuss these matters in the work place and am a believer in boundries, but my coworker, ( and I pointed to the person in the next cube ), however refuses or declines to accept multiple invitations to my church-faith-gospell-fellowship-tabernacle due to his sin of pride - but I kee< praying for him that someday he will see the light. [br />
He left me alone after that.

5. I was pleasantly surprised this morning on this issue
Edited on Mon May-10-04 04:36 PM by EstimatedProphet
My doctor, who for some reason I don't understand, is enamored with Bush and talks about him to me whether I want to hear it or not, went on about fundies this morning and how the southern Baptists in this area are hard to trust. It's been my experience too that they have a reputation for hiding behind their religion-they get "saved" and interpret that as a free pass to do whatever they want from then on. I explained to her that this is in reality a corruption of Calvinist doctrine: Calvinists believe that people can be saved and thereafter do no wrong, but the important difference is that they literally DO NO WRONG, not that everything they do is now OK with God. It's like they view religion as a country club...

8. No. You're making this up.
If there really was people like that, the occupation of satirist would become useless.

...

Oh my, I think you're not lying.

9. Unfortunately, I'm not making it up
It's crazy-you listen to the stereotypes and think they're being played for comedy, and then the real thing comes along and you realize the stereotypes are really true.

10. Oye!
My heart truly goes out to you, friend.

Yes, we have those fundie types here in Connecticut, but we have enough sane Christians to negate the wackos' otherwise deleterious effect on our fair state.
