Dump wired phone and get DSL for intenet??
I'm moving to a new apartment and it seems that I should forget about a wired phone and just use my cell phone for all my calls. I don't do much local calling, and the free long distance on my cell means I use my cell phone mostly already. So if I get rid of my wired phone (and analog modem), I am told by the lady at the apt office to go to DSL for the internet (she said the cable in the complex doesn't support the internet).

So in summary:

No wired phone.
Cell phone for all calls.
DSL for internet.
Cable for TV.

Any comments or advice before I start making calls to set this up tomorrow?

2. Uhhh...
DSL comes down standard phone lines and you usually get a better monthly price with bundled phone service plans.

I suggest that if you want to go all-cell, get cable modem and dump the telco alltogether, at least as far as copper is concerned.

Uhh... if your cableco is Comcast, you get 3Mb downstream speed, standard.

4. Avoid cable modem for internet, go DSL
Cable modem is on a shared line. It's not secure and if many people on the segment are using it at once, you're not going to get the advertised speed.

I'm tempted to drop my phone service but keep DSL, but you never know when a land line would come in handy.

5. Thanks for the expert advice, HT.
Tomorrow I'll see what kind of package deal the phone company can give me.

6. don't you still need a home phone to get credit?
that, and I like having a "wired" phone for anything to do with finances or where privacy is preferred.

But maybe I'm old-fashioned.
