Chris Rock turns down offer to emcee Oscars
:pout:

Chris is my favorite comedian. Too bad. I would think he would draw a lot of viewers.

August 19, 2003 -- CHRIS ROCK. A talent as big as his mouth. The guy has major 'tude but he's running so good he can afford it. Now we go to the Academy Awards show, which is not running so good. Though an institution, its demographics have sunk to where even those who are watching it aren't watching. Because they aren't seeing many of these X-rated FX movies that the industry is shoving out. Because they aren't wanting to see one more similar-looking skinny tube dress with décolleté. Because they don't know half these new young indie names that are winning the awards. Because at commercial breaks they go for a farina break.

So the bosses decided, Aha! We get us a young emcee. That will get us a young demographic - or at least any demographic.

Which brings up Chris Rock. They asked him. He was suitably wildly flattered. His answer was quoted to me as being: "Not me, man. That's for old people. For maybe 10 years from now, when my career's in the toilet. When my TV life is on cable. For right now, I'd rather talk about Sophia Loren's fat ass than her need to get an Oscar."

I think it will be funny. They are trying to change the demographic...I hope DL is asked and he agrees.

3. That would have made the Oscars watchable
I'm sure they'll give it to someone deserving.

Like Billy Crystal.:eyes:

And they ask Chris Rock?

He would have been great and the producers would have had heart attacks.

5. Yep, but the Free Republic Michael Moore Fan Club...
...would have had a field day the second he opens his mouth about Fearless Leader, and Chris Rock ain't havin' it. He ain't shuttin' up, either.

6. I'm sure they would have asked Rock to tame down his act
and using good judgement he decided it wasn't worth it.

I'm still laughing about that Bill Maher episode where he told Ann Coulter "You just make stuff the fuck up!"
