i had a cat once. once. at first, it was cute and cuddly, we gave her a cute silly name, she purred, snuggled, and endeared herself to us in the normal tribble fashion.

but then, her dark side began to manifest itelf, in disturbing and unspeakable ways. she took delight in terrorizing, torturing, and killing the small creatures within her claws. mice, birds, rabbits, snakes, moles, crickets, any defenseless victim she could find.

she wouldn't eat them, she was well fed, and she killed several times a day, and left the corpses scattered about the yard and house.
dead snakes in the bathroom. dead birds in the living room. she even brought a terrified bunny rabbit in and then proceeded to kill it under the kitchen sink. she was utterly monstrous and insaitiable in her lust for killing.

eventually she went totally mad. would attack anyone close, including me. and i loved that cat, but being slashed by the tasmanian devil was no fun.

sure, they are cute. and they are somewhat amusing. but what is their real agenda? and what are you doing to enable this ghastly agenda? have you no regard at all for the local population of small creatures in the neighborhood? can you justify your cat's behavior with it's overwhelming cuteness?

cats are everywhere people, we've invited millions of these killers right into our homes, and we feed and nurture them, but we turn our heads to their true murderous behavior.

5. Lily the killer is now an indoor cat

and she has turned passively old, fat and arthritic (although still purry and cute-tribble-like).

In her outdoor days once she brought a mouse inside and hid it and brought it on the bed to teach me how to kill. I still remember the poor baby rabbit we rescued from her clutches that later died.

Lucifer would jump in the air and snatch a fat blue jay right out of the sky.

Pad Thai has never been outside but occasionally he jumps up on the computer and grabs a beanie baby. He has mastered the fatal neck snap of the beanie baby.

But hey, dogs aren't immune. We once had a mixed Beagle-Basset dog who killed an entire litter of baby possums.

By the time I save them (and I have missed saving them a few times)... they are always missing their tails. He's good for keeping the spiders down in the house though. :)

And yes, I can justify my beautiful cat's behavior, except when he leaps unexpectedly at me and scares me half to death. :)

Yes, my cat is a lunatic with a marked predilection to tear and claw first and ask questions later.

But he does eat most of the mice he kills. He generally leaves only the GI tract and the tail.

I had a neighbor who had 11 free range cats. When my dog Harvey was alive he kept them out of my yard and on their toes. When he passed away the cats ran amok, it was quite common to come home to find dead birds, chipmunks & lizards in front of the house. Good thing I moved before I started killing those bastards.
Please keep your cats in the house, they are a serious menace to wildlife. In Australia & New Zealand they are responsible for exterminating some species!
Please note that some dogs also have this tendency but dogs are generally not allowed to run loose and are less adept.

why? first, for her safety--she could easily get hit by a car. Second, for the safety of other small animals. This is what a cat does. She is now a old house cat and seems to like it and when she does go out for a walk on a leash she is always ready to come back in.

My cat bought a live rat into the house, then got bored with it and wandered off for a nap.

Ever tried to catch a rat and release it? Fun evening. Later, she wandered around trying to find it again and looked annoyed that I'd hidden her toy.

All in all, I'd prefer my brother's cat, who left 4 headless rabbits on his patio. What kind of cat just eats the heads?

I had a cat, or should I say, it once had me...

Anyway, Sophie le Chat was a sweet, wise, loving cat who loved to torture its kills. Wife didn't like it, but Sophie and I had an understanding - I would let it be a cat and she wouldn't try that shit on me.

After a while, I came to respect it's utter cruelty, as a Democratic parent could love and respect a Republican son. It wasn't mine nor the cat's fault, the cat is just designed that way.

Spring is a tough time of year for kitties' hardwiring -- they sniff the warming breezes, eyeball the twittering birds, stalk the burgeoning tide of insects coming in from the yard, etc.

And because it's their nature, that's why they're primarily indoor cats.

Somewhere out there on the Internet there's a story of our first cat and her encounter with a mouse that was in our house when we first moved in. Ultimately, we felt so sorry for both the cat and the mouse, and were afraid we'd herniate ourselves laughing over the cat's total ineptitude as a hunter, we had to catch the mouse ourselves and release it at the end of the back yard. That was Tink. Tink's most successful prey is falling popcorn -- she never misses that.

We have four cats and a dog. None of the cats has ever taken down anything outside or inside and been left to dispatch it (my opinion is I keep them inside; if the mice stay outside, they're safe; if they come in the house, tough sh*t). Our dog, however, bounded out of the house one afternoon about a year ago and snapped a baby robin's neck as it was learning to fly.

He also picked up a mouse one night when we were out of town, walking him in the area around our hotel. We made him drop it. He was insufferable about it, spending the rest of the evening sniffing around the hotel room looking for another one.

just 20 minutes ago our darling kitty Lula revealed her murderous tendencies to this household.

This very moment there is a formerly cute little swallow twitching towards its demise on our deck.

Although long ago we made an agreement that I am in charge of banishing spiders/bugs and he is in charge of the wayward 2 to 4-legged creatures, this morning RUMMY_IS_FROSTED cannot bring himself to put this particular victim out of its misery. C'mon Lula, at least finish the job.
