My boss says its a Sullivan's Class destroyer, he says the way you can tell it's been out of commission is it has no missile defense, only gun turrets, there also no flags visible anywhere. Looks like something out of a movie set.

This what it looked like

7. I read in our local paper this morning
that they were bringing a decommissioned navy ship here to Hawaii and that it would be later sunk. I wonder if it is the same one?

8. USS Decatur; Sherman Class (DD-936; DDG-31)

During its day, the Decatur was a proud warship, serving as a spacecraft recovery ship in 1961, keeping Russian vessels at bay during the 1962 blockade of Cuba and engaging in Vietnam War missions from 1970 to 1973.

Although the Decatur was stricken from the regular Navy in the early '80s, its career was not over. The ex-Decatur, as the Navy now calls it, was part of the Pacific Reserve Fleet until it was converted in 1994 to a "self-defense test ship," conducting trials of systems for countering cruise missiles and other threats until last year.

9. Navy destroyer to be sunk in Hawaii waters
(Honolulu-AP) -- A decommissioned Navy destroyer is being brought to Hawaii to be sunk.

The ``U-S-S Decatur,'' which was decommissioned in 1983 after 27 years of sea duty, is being towed to Pearl Harbor, where it will remain until July.

That's when a missile or two will be fired at it to sink it to the ocean's floor.

The Decatur will make its final appearance during RIMPAC 2004, the biennial multinational naval exercise held north of Kauai.

I've been on it several times in the early 80's.
