Where can I buy edible chestnuts?
Not chocolate covered or pulverized; whole
edible chestnuts.

3. They only sell them at Christmas time in these parts
I will have to buy them online.
I have never tried them.

4. Do you find them year round?
I should think they don't fall until September or so.

2. Usually find them in the grocery store
at holiday time. I don't usually see them in the summer.

You have to score the hulls, then heat them.

6. You can get shelled and cleaned chestnuts many places...
...including online, at the likes of Willaims-Sonoma. They often tend to be pre-cooked, however. I prefer shelling and cooking my own, but the damn hard part is getting the inner coating off the nut itself. I've tried many techniques, but it's still time consuming.
