have a professional do it. The best look is achieved by using two or three colors to highlight, two blonde shades, maybe a brown and a blonde. That's assuming she wants a natural looking result.

The mistake too many women make is coloring their own hair.

That is what my hair stylist called the color she used when I got my highlights recently. I also have "dirty blonde" hair, although I get a base color done before my highlights that is slightly red. The highlights are blonde, but not too pale. It turned out great.

I also say get them professionally done if you can afford it. If you can find someone that specializes in color, even better.
