And, on edit: For me, it's a fucking miracle drug. I would not be able to function without it.

The whole time I was on it, I shit pellets like a goat.

I was not encouraged to see that the doctor prescribing Lexapro had a Lexapro tissue box and I know not what else from the drug company. The adjustment was a bitch and I'm really happy to be off it.

He's shitting pellets like a goat too. He also feels like he's tripping out. Sometimes he's dizzy and he gets headaches. Do you get those side effects too?

18. I took it for about 18 months...

...and have only just recently stopped. 20 mg/day. No side effects to speak of-- I'd tried other SSRI's previously and settled on Lexapro primarily because of it's lack of side effects. Might have been a slight anoragasmic response/libido loss initially, but that's really difficult to say, especially when compared to other SSRI's I tried. Giving it a break now to see how things go.

One thing I found is that Lexapro worked really well for a while, but in the long run I didn't make the sorts of life changes needed to reduce stress, etc.

It seems like Lexapro has very little side effects, but it also seems like it doesn't work in the long-run.

I've heard of Zoloft having some side effects that could be irritating, but it seems like it works for a long time.

Which of those two would be the better choice? Or should my brother pursue other options, like Paxil?

26. Different medications work for different people.

Sometimes you have try several before finding what is right for each individual. They all have side effects. You have to weigh the relief you recieve versus the side effects. Also once you are on a med for a while the side effects general dissipate. You really need to give the medication at least 4 weeks, if it is not helping they generally up your dose. Then if you don't get better they try another med. Everyone is different. You really need to have medication management by a psychiatrist while you are trying to find what works.

It is worth it though if you are seriously afflicted.

Been on everything. Paxil worked for years until peri-menopause, then nothing worked. Now on Lexapro 15 mg., 20 mg just zonked me out and just started hormone therapy. Good luck to your brother.

I'm on 10mg. I have a bit lower sex drive as well. I have to take Depakote also but I do know the sex drive is Lexapro. Without it, it is normal. Also too, feel drugged a bit, but I think that is the Depakote.
